Govt. P.G. College Rajouri proudly hosted a vibrant Art Competition today, celebrating the
values of Truth and Non-Violence on the event of series organized on the occasion of Gandhi
Jayanti 2024. The event, held in the College Conference Hall, brought together young artists
from the college to creatively express the timeless principles advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, the
Father of the Nation. The theme of this year's competition, Truth and Non-Violence, was
inspired by the core Gandhian ideologies that continue to resonate globally. Participants were
encouraged to reflect on how these ideals can be relevant in today's world and depict their
interpretations through the medium of art. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from
students, with over 50 entries showcasing a diverse range of artistic styles, including painting,
sketching, and Slogan Writing. The Principal of Govt. P.G. College Rajouri, Prof. (Dr.) K. K.
Sharma, lauded the participants for their creative expressions and emphasized the importance of
Gandhi’s message in today's world. “Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a peaceful society based on
truth and non-violence is as relevant now as it was during his lifetime. The others who were
present on the event were Prof. D.N. Saharma (Assistant Professor), Prof. Rabia Koser
(Assistant Professor) and Ms. Neha Bardwaj from the non- Teaching staff provides every
support to make the event successful.
A distinguished panel of judges, comprising Prof. Iqbal Raina (Convener Literary
Committee) and Prof. Khalid Riaz, (Member Literary Committee) evaluated the
submissions based on creativity, relevance to the theme, and overall impact. The top three
winners were Vishali Sharma (1st), Nitish Sayal (2nd) and Aditya Singh (3rd) and their artworks
will be displayed in the conference hall event organized by the college as part of the Gandhi
Jayanti celebrations.
September 13, Women Development Cell , P.G. College Rajouri in collaboration with SVEEP Cell for Women Participation, organized an Awareness Program on “Ensuring Participation and Representation of Women in electoral Process and ethical Voting” under the patronage of the Principal of the College, Dr. K. K. Sharma. Prof Salma Farooq, Coordinator Women Development Cell formally welcomed the Nodal Officer, SVEEP Cell Ms. Shakti Gupta and the representatives of the ECI for imparting the awareness among the girl students of the college. Ms. Shakti Gupta elaborated on the importance of casting vote for female students as it gives voice to them to choose their representatives wisely. She highlighted the various issues that can hinder the process of casting votes for females and subsequently explained the ways to tackle them. Among the speakers , Ms. Jyoti, Ms. Shazia and Ms. Tania explained the various ethical aspects of voting and how to cast their votes without succumbing to the pressure from family or society. All the speakers enlightened on the importance of following ethics while participating in the electoral process. The event witnessed a huge participation from the students and staff. The students felt highly motivated and took a pledge to ensure maximum participation in the voting in the coming assembly elections. Principal Prof.(Dr.) K. K. Sharma highly appreciated the efforts of the Women Development Cell and SVEEP Cell in organizing the Awareness program to create electoral literacy among the young students especially the first time voters.. Dr Mushtaq Ahmad, HOD Persian also stressed on the need of organizing such events. Complying the instructions received from the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department, Department of English Govt. PG College Rajouri, in collaboration with Department of Urdu, under the astute mentorship of Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Sharma, worthy Principal, organized Inter-College Essay writing competition to commemorate the 77 th anniversary of India’s independence. The competition was among the 1 st Position holders of Intra-College Competition and featured two themes: "Unsung Heroes of India's Independence" and "77 Years of India's Independence". The objective was to encourage students to research and reflect on the sacrifices and contributions of lesser-known individuals who played a crucial role in India's freedom struggle, as well as to celebrate the remarkable journey of the nation since its independence. A total of 8 students from different colleges of the district participated in competition and demonstrated their research, analytical, and writing skills quite effectively. The essays were evaluated by a panel of experienced judges including Dr. Mohammed Latif Mir from GDC Rajouri, Prof. Mohd Sajar from GDC Kotranka and Prof Ayaz Ahmed Chowdhary from GDC Rajouri. The jury assessed the submissions based on certain parameters such as content, originality, writing style, and adherence to the given themes. Girija Gupta from GDC Sunderbani secured first position while Ms. Mehak Shabir and Ishfaq Ahmed from GDC Rajouri pocketed the second and third positions respectively. The event was jointly coordinated by Dr. Mohammed Latief Mir, Head Department of Urdu, and Dr. Zakir Hussain Kalis, Head Department of English. The event was attended by faculty members from different colleges of Rajouri district. In his presidential address the worthy Principal Dr. K.K. Sharma commended the participants for their active involvement in the competition. He stressed upon the idea of peace and nonviolence. He stressed the need for national integration and unity, urging the young minds to work toward bridging gaps and fostering harmony. He wished student on international Youth Day. He encouraged student to become responsible citizen. The event was received overwhelmingly and offered a fitting tribute to the 77 years of India's independence. It did not only encourage the students to delve into the lesser-known aspects of the country's history but also fostered a sense of patriotism and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the nation's freedom fighters. Rajouri, August 12, 2024 – In a remarkable demonstration of democratic principles and mutual consensus, the teaching staff of Government Degree College Rajouri has successfully elected their representatives for the ongoing session. The election process, conducted with utmost transparency and fairness, which has led to the following appointments: Dr. Ahsan Ul Rehman Rizvi from Department of Arabic has been unanimously appointed as the Chairman of the Association for the entire session. Dr. Rizvi’s overall leadership and vision is anticipated to guide the committee towards achieving its desired goals effectively. Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed, Head of the Department of Sociology, has been unanimously elected as the Staff Secretary. His extensive experience and unwavering commitment to the institution make him an exemplary choice for this pivotal role. On the occasion Prof. Khaleeq articulated his vision for the college, emphasizing the importance of both rights and duties, and pledged to work tirelessly for the betterment of the students and the institution. He expressed his determination to contribute to the college's journey towards excellence and become the strength of the Principal Dr. Khalid Rayaz has been appointed as the Joint Secretary. His dedication to academic excellence and his proactive approach is expected to greatly benefit the teaching community. After the declaration of result, a presidium was formed where Prof. Murtaza Ahmed HOD Political Science was nominated as Media Secretary while Prof Muhammad Shoket,HOD Education was appointed as Treasurer. Mr. Waqar Ahmed Gorsi, Chief Librarian is nominated as Secretary Hospitality and Protocol. The election for the Teachers’ Association was meticulously supervised by the Election Commission, ensuring a fair and democratic process. The commission was led by Prof. Shoket Hussain Head Department of Chemistry, serving as the Chief Election Commissioner. He was ably assisted by Prof. Mohammad Iqbal Raina and Dr. Riaz Ahmed Mirza, who served as Election Commissioners. These appointments reflect the collective trust and confidence that the teaching staff places in their newly elected representatives. Rajouri 09 August 2024 Cultural & Literary Committee of Govt. PG College Rajouri, under the astute mentorship of Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Sharma, worthy Principal, organized District Level Inter-College Singing & Painting Competitions to commemorate the 77 th anniversary of India’s independence. In the events all the colleges of District Rajouri affiliated to the University of Jammu participated. The competitions were held on the theme: "Unsung Heroes of India's Freedom struggle" and "77 Years of India's Independence". Prof. Iqbal Raina HOD Physics & Convener College Cultural and Literary Committee introduced the topics for the participants and passed necessary instructions to the students. Dr. Zakir Hussain Kalis formally welcomed the faculty members and participating teams from different colleges of the district. Prof. Mukhdoom conducted the proceedings of the event. In National Anthem singing competition 12 students across the district participated. Miss Manat Thakur of GDC Koteranka bagged 1 st Position where as Miss Mehar Naseer of GDC Budhal and Miss Girga Gupta of GDC Sunderbani fetched 2 nd and 3 rd Positions respectively. In painting competition Miss Muskan Akhter of GDC Budhal fetched 1 st Position and Miss Saria Qazi of GDC Rajouri & Mr. Umar Gul of GDC Thannamandi got 2 nd and 3 rd Position respectively. Prof. Mohd Shajar of GDC Koteranka, Prof. Qamar Rabani Choudhary of GDC Budhal and Prof. Mukesh Kumar of Govt. PG College Rajouri were the jury members in the competitions. The objective of the events were to encourage students to research and reflect on the sacrifices and contributions of lesser-known individuals who played a crucial role in India's freedom struggle, as well as to celebrate the remarkable journey of the nation since its independence. June 5,2024: NCC Unit (SD/SW) of Govt Post Graduate College, Rajouri, organized a series of events to commemorate World Environment Day under the patronage of the principal of the College, Prof.(Dr.) Shamim A Azad. The event started with a brief introduction about the significance of conserving the Environment and the measures of improving and maintaining the health of our planet by NCC Officer, Prof Salma Farooq. She highlighted the role of NCC cadets in working for the sustainable land management and proactive approach towards preserving our Resources. Major Tanwir Ahmed , NCC Officer, Boys Wing elaborated on the theme : “Land Restoration, Dessertification and Drought Resililience”. He further added that our efforts today will lay the foundation for a greener and healthier tomorrow. NCC cadets organized a cleanliness drive within College Campus and collected a significant amount of trash consisting of juice cans, plates, rags, bottles, etc. Further the cadets took out a rally that witnessed a huge participation from other students of the college. The rally was seen chanting the slogans like “ No green, no blue ” , “ save water, save Life” , “Say no to pollution & Yes to Recycle” , “Live green, Breathe Green, Go green”, etc. At the end of the event, the NCC cadets and other students were administered a pledge to promote recycling, reusing and reducing the waste and that they will not pollute the environment or degrade the quality of air, soil or water and will work for sustainable living for greener and healthier planet. Rajouri June 5, 2024: NSS Unit of Govt. PG College Rajouri in collaboration with Department of Environmental Sciences, Botany and Veterinary Science organized a mega plantation drive on the eve of “World Environment Day, 2024”. The entire event was organised under the overall supervision of Principal Govt. PG College Rajouri Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad . The event was coordinated by Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Naveen Sharma, HoD Environmental Science, Prof. Altaf Ahmed, Prof. Antima Gupta, Prof. Tejinder Singh HoD Botany and Dr. Suhasani Tandon. The themes of this years World Environment Day focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan “Our Land Our Future. We are #Generation Restoration.” To commemorate this a mega plantation drive was conducted in the campus of Govt. PG College, Rajouri in which numbers of indigenous saplings were planted. The prominent species includes Syzygium cumini (Jamun), Psidium guajava (Gauva), etc. Talking on the occasion Principal of the College Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad being himself a renowned Botanist shed light on how this generation can be a change maker in protecting the environment. He also appreciated the joint efforts of NSS unit, Department of Environmental Sciences, Botany and Veterinary Science for organizing such a mega plantation drive A good number of NSS volunteers actively participated in the plantation drive and pledged to take care of planted saplings in the future.
May 15, 2024: Women Development Cell in collaboration with NCC Unit (SW), Govt P G College, Rajouri organized a Grievance Redressal camp on 15 th May, 2023 under the patronage of the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim A Azad. The camp was organized to interact with the girl students of the college and redress their grievances. The camp was attended by a large number of students including the students residing in the college hostels. The students submitted their grievances and presented various suggestions for making the campus more congenial for the students. Prof. Salma Farooq, Coordinator, Women Development Cell and NCC Officer (Girls’Wing) briefed the audience about the significance of organizing the camp for developing self- confidence among the students and for asserting the importance of economic, social, racial and gender equality among the students. NCC cadets played a spectacular role in motivating the girl students to stand up for themselves to feel empowered in today’s contemporary world full of challenges. Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim A Azad, interacted with the students and emphasized for the need of organizing such camps for making the institution a safe place with friendly environment for the students. He further stressed on maintaining health and hygiene among the students and the role of Women Development Cell in accomplishing the same. He further promised to consider the suggestions put forth by the students and also assured that their grievances will be redressed at the earliest in the interest of the students and the college. The event was attended by the members of Women Development Cell Prof Rabia Kouser, Dr Divya Mahajan and Ms Ramniq kaur. All the members listened to the students and promised for the redressal of the same. The students also expressed their contentment with the efforts of the College Administration in general and Women Development Cell in particular for working for the benefit of the college students.
April 26: NCC Unit, Govt P G College, Rajouri organizes Workshop on the role of NCC in Social service Activities under the patronage of the Principal, Prof.(Dr.) Shamim A Azad. The aim of the event was to apprise the students about the importance of NCC in Community Development. Major Tanwir Ahmed, NCC officer (SD) explained how NCC has adopted community development activities with the aim of absorbing amongst cadets selfless service toward the society, importance of self-help, need to protect the environment and to assist weaker sections of the society towards their uplift. NCC Officer(SW), Prof Salma Farooq acquainted the students with the various programs aimed at helping out society and in motivating the candidates towards helping out their society, community and country. She further added that Youth is the major factor that determines the overall success rate of a Nation. NCC Officers provided an insight towards the activities of the NCC in social service that include: Tree plantation drives to ensure climatic balance, Blood donation camps aimed at collecting blood to help out those in urgent need, Campaigning against the Dowry in the form of different Rallies, Anti Female Infanticide, AIDS Awareness Rally to spread information about this disease, Disaster Management & Relief at the time of war and epidemics, Cleanliness drives, polio Immunization drives, Anti Drug Rallies, etc The workshop witnessed a huge participation from both the faculty members and the students. Prof.(Dr.) Shamim A Azad congratulated the Officers and cadets of both wings for organizing the Workshop as this would help in inculcating a sense of responsibility towards the Nation. At the end of the event, the students took a pledge to serve the Nation by actively participating in the Community Development.
Rajouri April, 2024: The Department of Environmental Science in collaboration with IIC under the Agies of IQAC Govt. PG College Rajouri celebrated ‘World Earth Day’ on April 22, 2024. The entire event was organised under the able guidance of College Principal Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad. He underscored the importance of the day and praised the organizers. Considering the global environmental issues, it is the responsibility of each individual to make every possible effort possible to make this world a desirable place to live. The event was coordinated by Prof. Altaf Ahmed, Prof. Antima Gupta, faculty of Environmental Sciences and Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Co- ordinator IQAC; Prof. Joginder Singh, Convener IIC and Prof. Satish Kumar from Department of Dogri. The event started with an extension lecture delivered by Prof. Altaf Ahmed regarding the importance of the day who discussed the overall environmental issues. Furthermore, this year’s theme “Planet Vs Plastics” was discussed and this theme aims to bring attention to the serious issue of plastic pollution and how it harms nature. For Earth Day 2024, EARTHDAY.ORG aims to end plastic for planetary health and demands a 60 per cent reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040. A poster-making competition was also organized in which a large number of students participated and displayed their posters for mass awareness through them. The concluding remarks were given by Dr. Riaz Ahmed, Coordinator, IQAC who stressed upon the importance of individual participation and community awareness to deal with plastic pollution. Prof. Antima Gupta, faculty of Environmental Sciences and NSS Programme officer presented vote of thanks.
March 17, 2024: A distinguished delegation led by Dr. Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, Director, Planning ,Ms Sukhleen Kour, and Nodal Principal Dr. S. P. Saraswat visited Govt P G College, Rajouri . The delegation was received by the worthy Principal , Prof.(Dr.) Shamim A Azad and the Faculty members of the College . NCC Unit(SD/SW) presented the Guard of Honour as a mark of respect to the Director Colleges, Dr. Yasmeen Ashai. The exemplary display of discipline and steadiness by the NCC Cadets created an aura of great admiration for the entire College. While addressing a colossal gathering of NCC Cadets and NSS Volunteers, the worthy Director stressed the role of the disciplined students in making the society a better place to live in. She also focused on the need of co- curricular activities in personality development of the students. She also urged the students to refrain from the various evils prevalent in the society. The Director Colleges along with the delegation interacted with the NCC Cadets and NSS Volunteers and appreciated their perseverance in becoming better citizens. The Delegation also visited the Department of Botany and exploring a diverse assortment of local cereals, nuts, and indigenous seeds meticulously collected by the students. This served as a testament to the Department's unwavering dedication to the preservation of biodiversity. The delegation visited the botanical garden of the College where they actively engaged in planting a variety of significant medicinal plants. Noteworthy among these were the revered Aswaganda (Withania somnifera), Haraysingary (Nyctanthes arbor-tristis), and Celtis tala. This initiative underscored the college's commitment to the propagation of traditional medicinal practices. The collective involvement of both teaching and non-teaching staff including a sizeable number of students reflected the shared commitment of the college community towards nurturing botanical knowledge and preserving ecological balance. The Director Colleges, also inaugurated the Department of Information Technology which has been granted affiliation by the University of Jammu from the current year. Dr. Yasmeen Ashai congratulated the entire Department for this milestone. The Delegation also paid visit to the newly constructed Girls’ Hostel. The Delegation also inspected the various developmental works undergoing in the College.
Rajouri March 15, 2024: Department of Environmental Science in collaboration with NSS Unit of Govt. PG College Rajouri organized a mega cleanliness drive under the national campaign Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0. The entire event was organised under the able guidance of College Principal Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad. The event was coordinated by Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Naveen Sharma, HoD Environmental Science, Prof. Altaf Ahmed and Ms. Flourance Chand. The event started with an extension lecture delivered by Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed regarding the importance of healthy environment and values of Swachhta. The NSS Volunteers of the college along with students of Environmental Science cleaned the college campus and diligently collected the scattered waste from every nook and corner of the college premises, particularly plastic and polythene, ensuring its proper disposal. Mr. Sharma also briefed the students about the menace of solid waste generation and imparted knowledge related to its safe disposal. They also carried out a campaign on ‘Say No to Plastic’ and emphasized to make the campus plastic free. Around 140 students participated in this cleanliness drive. The principal appreciated the efforts of NSS unit and Department of Environmental Science.
On 09/03/2024: Department of Biotechnology, Govt P.G. College Rajouri organised career counselling session for the outgoing students to familiarise them various opportunities and entrance examinations after the Graduation. This Programme was conducted under the auspicious supervision of Principal of the College Dr.Shamim Ahmed Azad. An eminent scientist and son of the soil Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed, Director Centre for Molecular Biology School of Life Sciences, Central University Of Jammu was invited as the keynote speaker of the event. The session was started with the welcome address by Dr. Azhar Javed (HOD, Biotechnology). Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed in his lecture briefed the students about various research works going on in his Department and also motivated the students by sharing his success story. He highlighted the importance of various post graduation entrances like GAT-B for securing admission in prestigious institutions of the country. Question answer session was also conducted in which large number of students participated. While speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad lauded the efforts of Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed for sparing his valuable time to educate and counsel the students of far flung area of this region. The programme was attended by Heads of different Departments and faculty members. The programme concluded with formal vote of thanks by Prof. Salim Ayaz Rather (HOD Zoology).
The Department of Botany, Govt. P.G College Rajouri organized a transformative
botanical tour on March 5, 2024, to Krishi Vikas Kander (KVK) Thandi Kassi and Children Park
Makote, demonstrating the college's commitment to providing students with enriching
experiences beyond conventional academic realms. Under the patronage of Dr. Shameem Azad
Principal and the adept leadership of Dr. Tajinder Singh, Head of the Botany Department, the
tour aimed to foster hands-on learning and practical exposure to botanical concepts.
The distinguished Principal, Dr. Shamim Azad, ceremonially flagged off the bus,
highlighting the value of experiential education. Dr. ShamimAzad encouraged the 38 bright
students from the BSc 4th semester, accompanied by dedicated faculty members Dr. Tahir
Mehmood and Dr. Saleem Janghir, to seize this unique opportunity and gain valuable insights
into the fascinating world of botany.
The tour included a visit to (KVK) Thandi Kassi, where students were privileged to
receive guidance from eminent scientists, Dr. Arvind Isher Dr. Parul and Dr Suraj Parkash.
These distinguished scientists went beyond traditional botany, sharing a wealth of knowledge on
various botanical intricacies. Importantly, they enlightened the students about government
schemes to empower individuals in income-generating activities.
Dr. Tajinder SinghHead Department of Botany, known for his commitment to
experiential learning, emphasized the significance of such tours for the holistic development of
students. The practical exposure provided students with insights into mushroom cultivation,
efficient dairy farming practices, successful poultry ventures, and sustainable principles
governing horticulture. Furthermore, Dr. Arvind Isher Dr. Parul and Dr Suraj Parkashintroduced
students to skill-oriented courses that open avenues for self-empowerment and entrepreneurship.
The Department of Botany at Government P.G College Rajouri remains steadfast in its

March 6, 2024, Government PG College Rajouri recently hosted an engaging Intra-College Quiz
competition centered around the theme of “India’s struggle for freedom and its legacy.”
Under the astute guidance of Dr. (Prof.) Shamim Ahmed Azad, the esteemed Principal of the
College. This event was jointly organized by the Department of Political Science,
the Department of Economics in collaboration with NSS Unit of the College.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from four groups, each named after iconic
freedom fighters: Bhagat Singh, Ashfaq Ullah Khan, Rani Laxmibhai, and M.K. Gandhi. A total
of 12 students demonstrated their knowledge and passion in this intellectually stimulating
contest. The quiz was thoughtfully structured into seven rounds, designed to foster awareness
about the often overlooked heroes of India’s struggle for independence and Nation building and
to ignite a spirit of healthy competition and analytical thinking among the participants.
The M.K. Gandhi group, comprising Miss Shareen Anjum, Mr. Abrar Hussain, and Miss Neha
Sharma, clinched the coveted first position. Their depth of understanding and quick thinking set
them apart. The Rani Laxmibai group, represented by Ms. Samreena Manzoor, Ms. Serish
Anjum, and Pragati Gupta, secured a commendable second position. Their teamwork and
knowledge were truly impressive. The Ashfaq Ullah Khan group, featuring Ms. Sabha Naz, Ms.
Tahira Shameem, and Mr. Ibrar Ahmed, earned a well-deserved third position. Their dedication
and grasp of historical nuances stood out.
The event commenced with a warm Welcome Note delivered by Dr. Israr Ahmed from the
Department of Economics.Prof. Khaleeq Ahmed, the Programme Officer of NSS, followed with
an insightful Keynote Address.
As the Convener, Prof. Murtaza Ahmed, Head of the Political Science Department, skillfully
guided the proceedings. The esteemed jury members included Dr. Zakir Hussain, Head of the
English Department, and Prof. Altaf Hussain from the Department of Environmental Science.
Principal Prof. Shamim Ahmed presided over the occasion, emphasizing the importance of
celebrating academic achievements. Prizes were awarded to the winning students, recognizing

Rajouri-27/02/2024 Department of Biotechnology, Govt P.G.College Rajouri organised a Seminar on topic “Science and Religion” on 27/02/2024 to enshrine the importance of Science and Religion in our lives. This Programme was conducted under the auspicious supervision of Principal of the College Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad, Heads of different Departments, faculty members, large numbers of students have participated and the programme was conducted by Dr. Azhar Javed (HOD, Biotechnology). The programme started with welcome address by Dr. Riyaz Ahmed (convenor IQAC and HOD Computer sciences). Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad gave a wonderful presentation by elaborating the concept that religion plays a pivotal role in making a better human being and for the betterment of society. In his lecture, he stated that Science from Mendel’s Genetics to Watson’s DNA has played an extraordinary role in our lives and its only due to the advancement of scientific knowledge that people are speaking about sequencing of Genome to modifying the genes. He advised the students to develop scientific zeal and temperament along with purity of soul and mind from religious scripts. Dr. Azhar Javed while interacting with the students citied the examples of GM crops and crisper technology to illustrate the advancement of science from the period of renaissance of Europe to current scenario of Genomics and Cytomics. At the same time religion is equally important for the society to develop moral ethics, harmony and brotherhood. Prof. Makhdoom Ahmed spoke on the occasion and elaborated the role of religion and science in our day to day life. While delivering his lecture he correlated science with religion by quoting aviation designs of planes inspired by birds. Other speakers from the students who spoke on the occasion include Mehren, Mushkoor, Somina, Owis and Danish. The programme concluded with formal vote of thanks by Prof. Altaf Ahmed ( HOD Geology).
Education department of Government Degree College Rajouri under the aegis of IQAC organized a seminar on “Fundamentals of Education” for Semester 6 th Students. The event was conducted under the patronage of Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad. The main objective of organizing this seminar was to develop confidence among the learners and to provide an opportunity for participants to gain knowledge and skills through lectures, discussion, and other interactive activities. Many students from department of education participated in the seminar and discussed various topics related to fundamentals of education. Among the participants Mr. Ankush Sharma of B.A Sem 6 th secured first position while Ms. Pragati Gupta and Preeti Gunyal secured 2 nd and 3 rd position respectively. Prof. Muhammad Shoket Head Department of Education also enlightened the students regarding the seminar and motivated them to participate in such type of co curricular activities in order to make a developed personality. He emphasized that it is a learning environment different and unique from classrooms, students can learn more effectively and efficiently.
In a green endeavor, the Department of Botany, Government P.G College Rajouri orchestrated a meaningful plantation drive with the lush expanse of Botanical Garden under the patronage of Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad Principal of the College and the Headship of Dr. Tajinder Singh on 22/02/2024. Notably, the event garnered active involvement of Prof. Rayaz Mirza IQAC coordinator, Prof. Joginder Singh Department of Physics, and Prof. Altaf Ahmed Department of Geology and dedicated teaching staff Dr. Saleem Jahangir and Dr. Tahir Mehmood. Together, they planted a diverse array of important medicinal plants including Amaltas (Casia fistula), Bael (Aeglemarmelos), Falsa (Gravia asiatica) Ber (Zizipus mauritiana), peepal (Ficus religiosa) and many other important flowering plants. This drive was marked by the participation of teaching and non-teaching staff of Botany Department along with the huge number of students. During the event, the Principal of the College shared valuable insights on the significance of plants in maintaining ecological balance and emphasized the role that educational institutions play in nurturing environmental consciousness. The principal concluded by expressing gratitude to all participants and encouraged the continuation of such eco-friendly initiatives. Nasha-Mukt committee , NSS Unit of PG college in collaboration with IQAC today organized a series of activities under the flagship programmme of Govt. of INDIA ”NASHA MUKT BHARAT ABHIYAAN” . The event was started with the welcome address by the convener Nasha Mukt Committee of the college Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, he along with the welcome address also throw light on the importance of organizing such activities. January 25 2024, Government Degree College Rajouri conducted a series of awareness activities. The Electoral Literacy Club, in collaboration with the NSS Unit and the Department of Political Science, organized these activities under the auspices of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Following the theme of “Nothing like voting, I vote for sure” as prescribed by the Election Commission of India, a seminar was held in the conference hall, which was followed by a voter’s pledge in the college ground. The aim of the day was to promote electoral literacy among all age groups, especially among the 18 to 21 years of age group who are pursuing graduation. The Principal Dr. (Prof.) Shamim Ahmed Azad, who also served as the chief guest, supervised the program. The Electoral Literacy Club, along with the Department of Political Science and the NSS Unit of the College, hosted and coordinated the program. The programme started with formal welcome address presented by Dr. Mohd Aftab from Department of Political Science. In order to commemorate the BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO CAMPAIGN, Women Development Cell, Govt P G College, Rajouri organized a poster making competition on 24th January, 2024 under the patronage of the principal of the college, Prof (Dr) Shamim A Azad. NCC Unit (SD/SW), Govt P. G. College, Rajouri celebrated Constitution Day and the 76 th NCC Raising Day on 25 h November, 2023 under the countenance of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim A Azad and was organized by Major Tanveer Ahmad(NCC Officer SD) and Prof Salma Farooq (NCC Officer SW ) in collaboration with IQAC and the Department of Political science. As a part of the event, the NCC Cadets participated in various events including the swachta Abhiyaan in which the cadets performed the cleanliness drive of the college campus. The event started with a formal welcome to the chief guest of the event, Prof (Dr.) Shamim A Azad by Mr Tanwir Ahmad. The cadets of both the Wings (SD/SW) mesmerized the audience with their beautiful and amazing cultural items like songs and dance competitions. Rajouri Oct 18, 2023: On the occasion of Sir Syed Day, a grand celebration was held today at Government P G College Rajouri. The event, chaired by Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad, the Principal of the college and an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was organized jointly by the college's Alig alumni serving as faculty members and the Literary and Cultural Committee. The programme commenced with a documentary on the life and achievements of Sir Syed presented by Dr Ashiq Hussain. The inspiring documentary shed light on Sir Syed's vision, his educational reforms, and his contribution in building modern India. Following the documentary, Prof Asadullah Khan delivered the welcome address, extending warm greetings to all the guests and highlighting the significance of the day. The Eco- Club and Literary and Cultural Committee of Govt P G College Rajouri, joined hands with the J&K Science, Technology and Innovation Council, Department of Science and Technology, to celebrate World Ozone Day. The highlight of the event was an inter college symposium focused on the theme "Fixing the ozone layer and Reducing Climate Change". The symposium witnessed the participation of students from six different colleges in Rajouri district. The event was chaired by Principal Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad and coordinated by Dr Mohd Saleem Wani as the convenor, Dr Junaid Jazib as the organizing secretary, and several other colleagues from the college. A team of senior faculty members, including Dr Bashir Ahmed, Head of the Physics department, Dr Shameem Akhter, Head of the Zoology department, and Dr Ashiq Hussain from the Department of Botany, served as judges for the symposium. Prof. Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad, Principal Govt. P G College Rajouri, inaugurated the Digital Week programme of week-long activities under Digital J&K Week. 31 st August to 6 th September 2023. The week is being celebrated with an aim to facilitate the public, so that they are made aware of e-services provided by various departments. In this connection, an awareness programme on various e services was organized in the College in which a large number of students were informed about the online services like, Aap ka Mobile Hamara Daftar (UMANG), e-UNNAT, DigiLocker Digi-Dost (Doorstep delivery of services), CSC-Aadhaar Seva Kendras at Block Level, a multilingual chatbot etc to bring transparency and accessibility in delivery of such services to the citizens. The event was organized by a special Committee framed for the purpose comprising Prof Supriya Gupta, Prof Rabia Koser, and Dr Divya Mahajan. A series of activities including Poster/ Painting competition on the theme “Digital Initiatives by Govt. of J&K”, and Essay Writing competition will be organized as part of the event.
August 16, 2023: Women Development Cell, Govt P G College, Rajouri organized an Awareness camp on Ragging: Prevention and Punishment under the patronage of the Principal Prof.(Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad as a part of Anti-Ragging week. Prof Salma Farooq, Coordinator, Women Development Cell briefed the colossal gathering of students about the evil of ragging that exists in colleges and elaborated on the punishments in UGC’s anti ragging guidelines which include a fine up to rupees twenty five thousand, cancellation of admission, withholding of scholarship debarring from appearing for examinations, suspension or explosion from hostel and rustication from institution for period of one or four semesters. Prof. Fatima Parveeen, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry in her impactful speech made the students aware about the laws and punishment of ragging. She further stated that in order to create a congenial atmosphere in the college campus, one has to be vigilant and report the incidents to the concerned authorities. The members of Women Development Cell listened to the queries of the students patiently and responded aptly with positivity. Dr Shamim Akhter, Prof Robina Kouser and Dr Syed Atiya also highlighted the role of teachers and students in tackling the menace of ragging. The Red Ribbon Club of Govt P. G. College, Rajouri in collaboration with NSS Unit and J&K AIDS Control Society organized a daylong programme under AzadikaAmrutav Mahotsav to celebrate International Youth Day. The programme was presided over by the Principal of the college Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad.Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World has been chosen as the topic for extempore speech which was also the theme of the event. A number of students participated in speech competition and poster competition out of which Sheraz Ahmed, Ibrar Ahmed, Mohd Mushtaq, Mehreen Sambyal, Asreen Mirza, Sofia Kouser, Ayat Parveen, Ajmal Nisar and Mohd Asif were adjudged best in extempore speech category whereas, Sadia Shabir, Tehseen Raza, Rozia Tabassum, Nayeema Saira and Nazish Malik got certificates in Poster making category. Principal Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad threw light on the importance of the Day and added that celebration encourages youth around the world to organize activities to bring attention to the issues impacting young people. NCC unit (SW/SW) organizes Meri Matti Mera Desh Campaign under the patronage of the Principal of the college, Prof (Dr) Shamim A Azad and the guidance of NCC Officers Prof Salma Farooq and Major Tanwir Ahmed. As a part of the campaign, the cadets paid homage to the Martyrs of the Nation who sacrificed their lives . The Department of Directorate of Ayush in collaboration with Govt. PG College Rajouri organized a free medical camp and awareness programme under the supervision and guidance of the Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad and coordinated by Prof. Javied Iqbal. At the outset of this programme, Prof. Javied Iqbal presented formal welcome address and proceedings of this programme. On this occasion Dr. Tahir highlighted the participants about various ayurvedic medicines & their benefits on an individual health. Participants were also made aware about various component of National Ayush Mission. Dr. Tahir further informed that department has approved establishment of Ayushgram at various places in district Rajouri. He further added that Ayushgram is a Rural platform for providing Ayush intervention and enable the people to adopt healthy living practices for better health and disease free life. Dr. Ashraf briefed about cupping therapy is an ancient healing method that mayease back pain, neck pain, headaches and many other issues. It uses suction to pull on your skin and increase blood flow to the effected area. On this event, A Yoga Expert highlited various benefits of Yoga as it improves strength, balance and flexibility, helps in relieving back pain, it improves your sleep quality , manages stress and it has many benefits of heart health etc etc. A yoga demonstration of various yogas like Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga etc etc. was given by Yoga Expert to college students. Further a team of doctors checked the medical conditions of patients and distributed free medicines to each and every one gathered in the programme. Prof Salma Farooq, NCC Officer Girls Wing highlighted the role of NCC cadets and NSS Volunteers in wiping out the menace of drug addiction from the society for a healthy and prosperous Nation and the strategies to curb the temptation of getting addicted to this social evil. NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and the students of the college participated in a massive rally starting from the DAK Bangalo, Rajouri upto the Gujjar Mandi chanting the slogans like “Say No to Drugs, say Yes to Life”, Make Rajouri Drugs Free”, “Addiction is a disease , not a choice”, etc. The rally was joined by the officers from other departments like Social welfare, students from various schools of district Rajouri, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and various eminent persons of Civil society, etc. While speaking to the media, Dr Naseem A Malik, NSS Officer deliberated upon the role of educational institutions in educating the youth about the dreadful effects of consuming drugs. NCC(SD/SW) and NSS Units Govt P G College, Rajouri celebrated the Ninth International Yoga Day on 21 June, 2023 under the patronage of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad. The intent of the program was to highlight the importance of Yoga and the pivotal role it plays in rejuvenating the mind and the body, leading to a healthier lifestyle. The event started with a brief motivating lecture on the importance of yoga in physical and mental health and how yoga supports stress management, mental health, mindfulness, healthy eating, weight loss and quality sleep. Major Tanveer Ahmed (NCC Officer SD) highlighted the role of yoga in present era and demonstrated around 30 asanas to the cadets and the staff which include Bhadrasana, Bidalasana, Dandasana, Garudasana, Muktasana , Padmasana, Siddhasana,Tadasana, Trikonasana, Utkatasana, Virabhadrasana, etc. The cadets and the volunteers also practised pranayama and various mudras. Mr Rakesh Puri, Director, Physical Education helped the students in correcting their postures and guided them throughout the yoga session. The NCC Cadets and NSS volunteers also participated in various activities like poster making, writing articles, taking pledges, etc. Prof Supriya Gupta (NSS Officer) and Prof Salma Farooq (NCC Officer) encouraged the students to incorporate yoga in their daily lives to be happy and peaceful by transforming the outlook towards life. June 8, 2023: NCC units (SW/SD) Govt P G College, Rajouri organized an awareness Campaign on Blood Donation as a part of World Donor Day to be celebrated on 14 June, 2023. The event was organized under the patronage of Principal, Govt P G College Rajouri Prof.(Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad and guidance of Prof Salma Farooq (NCC Officer Girls wing )and Major Tanveer Ahmad ( NCC Officer Boys wing). The program was organized under the directions of CO 5 J&k BN NCC Poonch, Sh Narender Bhandari. As a part of Raktdaan Amrit Mahotsav, the NCC units organized a lecture on “Role of Blood Donation in personality Development”. Prof Salma Farooq formally welcomed the resource person of the event, Dr Ashiq Ahmad Raza and briefed the cadets about the importance and advantages of donating blood for both the donor and the recipient. In his speech, Dr Ashiq A Raza discussed in detail the advantages of donating blood and the need of organizing blood donation camps. He further quoted the examples of various world famous blood donors who saved the lives of so many people. He further explained how becoming a donor changes the attitude of a person and helps in building confidence. He said that the main factor responsible for not donating blood is lack of awareness. Major Tanveer Ahmad also highlighted the role of cadets in creating awareness about blood donation among the common people and how cadets can help in motivating the potential donors. A rally was also taken by the cadets in which they chanted the slogans like “Give Blood, save life”, “donate blood, donate smile”, “Give Blood, give plasma, share life, share often”, etc. A large number of students and faculty members also participated in the rally . those who were present include Dr Javed Mughal, Dr Saleem Wani, Dr Mohd Jameel, Dr Junaid Ahmad and many others. Department of Environmental Science, in collaboration with NSS units and Eco-Club of the college organized a program to celebrate World Environment Day 2023. A pledge to protect natural environment was taken on the occasion. Earlier an awareness cum cleanliness drive was also conducted in the campus. Its worth mentioning that over the past two weeks, various activities such as awareness campaigns, quiz contests, and symposiums have been organized to commemorate World Environment Day 2023. Principal of the college, Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad appreciated the efforts made and emphasized the importance of protecting the natural environment. Dr. Naseem Ahmed, NSS Program Officer, encouraged students to contribute to environmental conservation and highlighted the need of awareness among masses. The event was conducted under the aegis of Mission Life, with the aim of promoting environmental awareness and addressing the challenges faced by the world. The program garnered significant participation, with hundreds of participants from various higher education institutions across the state joining online. The Participants who scored 70% or more in the quiz were instantly awarded e-certificates to acknowledge their achievement. The efforts of the department were praised by the college Principal, Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad, who recognized their commitment to organizing such an impactful event. May 30, 2023: Women Development Cell, Govt P G College, Rajouri in collaboration with Department of Post, Rajouri organized an awareness camp on introduction of Mahila Samman Saving Certificate(MSSC), introduced in Department of Posts by Ministry of Finance exclusively for females. The intent of the camp was to apprise the students about the various saving schemes available in the Department of Post especially for females. Prof Salma Farooq, Coordinator, Women Development Cell formally welcomed the resource persons for the event ,Mr Naresh Choudhary, Inspector Post Offices(HQ), Rajouri Division and Mr Arun Sudan. In her speech, she highlighted the importance of being aware about such schemes provided by Ministry of Finance and stressed on getting benefited from such schemes for pursuing higher education , etc. Mr Arun sudan discussed the various benefits of Mahila Samman Saving Certificate scheme and provided extensive information about the deposits, maturity period, interest rate, partial withdrawal , premature closure, eligibility, etc. Mr Naresh further elaborated on other saving schemes provided by the Department of Post like Sukanya Samridhi Account, Open accounts , Postal Life Insurance, Recurring Deposits, etc. . The student also posed various queries related to the various schemes available for them. May 30, 2023: NCC units (SW/SD) Govt P G College, Rajouri organized a cleanliness drive ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan” of local water bodies under the banner of G20. The event was organized under the patronage of Principal, Govt P G College Rajouri Prof.(Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad and guidance of Prof Salma Farooq (NCC Officer Girls wing )and Mr Tanveer Ahmad ( NCC Officer Boys wing). The program was organized under the directions of CO 5 J&k BN NCC Poonch, Sh Narender Bhandari. The event started with the brief introduction about the importance of water in sustaining the nature and role of NCC in keeping such water bodies clean. A massive rally was organized by the cadets and NCC Officers of both the units. The cadets chanted various slogans like save water save life, No blue no green etc.. During the cleanliness drive, the cadets cleaned local bodies located at Dhanore area wherein they collected a significant amount of unwanted debris including polythene bags, old rags, fast food wrappers, juice cans, etc. The cadets interacted with the masses and made them aware of the importance of having clean water resources for good health. Prof Salma Farooq and major Tanveer Ahmed highlighted the current challenges about the conservation of water resources and the role and responsibility of NCC in the social services. The Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the NCC officers of both the units and congratulated the cadets for accomplishing such a noble mission of cleaning the water bodies and making the public aware about the hazards of water pollution and the need of resource conservation.

P G College, Rajouri organize a series of events as a part of G-20 Awareness Campaign under the patronage of the Principal, Prof (Dr) Shamim Ahmed Azad and the guidance of NCC Officer(SW), Prof. Salma Farooq and NCC Officer(SD), Major Tanveer Ahmad. In the inaugural speech, Prof (Dr) Shamim Ahmed Azad, Principal, Govt P G College, Rajouri apprised the students about the significance of G20 and highlighted the role of cadets in Presidency. During the event, Principal, Prof (Dr) Shamim Ahmed Azad and the NCC Officers Prof Salma Farooq and Major Tanveer Ahmad administered the LifeStyle for the Environment pledge to the cadets to protect the environment by inculcating the environmental friendly habits and to commit themselves to motivate their family, friends and others about the importance of environment friendly habits in their daily lives. The cadets actively participated in the cleanliness drive of the campus as a part of “Mission LiFE” Campaign in order to sensitize the students about the importance of pollution free environment for sustainable living. The cadets also motivated the students to adopt healthy eating habits and minimize the use of junk food for healthy living. The cadets also exhibited great enthusiasm by taking part in Run for Fitness to motivate the students and general public to remain fit and healthy by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives. Prof (Dr) Shamim Ahmed Azad appreciated the cadets and Officers of both the NCC units for organizing the event successfully.
On 16 May, 2023: NCC Units (SD/SW) ,Govt. P G College, Rajouri organize a symposium on G20 presidency: Awareness, Significance and challenges. The event was attended by a huge number of cadets with great enthusiasm. The cadets presented their views on the Significance of G20 Presidency and as such the challenges for India to achieve the mission of ‘oneness’. Ms Vishaka Sharma And Gourav Sharma carried the proceedings of the event. NCC Officer (Girls’ Wing), Prof Salma Farooq briefed the cadets about the importance of G20 Presidency for India and the importance of organizing such events for creating awareness among the youth to make them understand their role in G20. Major Tanveer Ahmad (NCC Officer Boys’ Wing) highlighted the challenges to accomplish the mission to bring about a shared global future for all through the Amrit Kaal initiative with a focus on the Life movement which aims to promote environmentally-conscious practices and a sustainable way of living. Principal Prof (Dr) Shamim Ahmed Azad while addressing the gathering highlighted the role of youth in G20 as the theme of India’ s presidency is 'One Earth, One Family, One Future' and appreciated both the NCC units for organizing such event successfully.
Women Development Cell in collaboration with NCC Unit (SW) organized a Grievance Redressal camp on 9 th May, 2023 under the patronage of the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim A Azad. The camp was organized to interact with the girl students of the college and redress their grievances. The camp was attended by colossal number of students with enthusiasm wherein the students put forth their grievances and presented various suggestions for making the campus more dignified and more congenial for the girl students. Prof. Salma Farooq, Coordinator, women Development Cell and NCC Officer (Girls’Wing) briefed the audience about the significance of organizing the camp for developing self-confidence among the students and for asserting the importance of economic, social, racial and gender equality among the students. NCC cadets played a spectacular role in motivating the girl students to stand up for themselves to feel empowered in today’s contemporary world full of challenges. Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim A Azad, interacted with the students and emphasized for the need of organizing such camps for making the institution a safe place with friendly environment for the students. He further stressed on maintaining health and hygiene among the students and the role of Women Development Cell in accomplishing the same. He further promised to consider the suggestions put forth by the students and also assured that their grievances will be redressed at the earliest in the interest of the students and the college. Different activities that were carried out by NSS Volunteers during the event included a mass pledge to make society drug free followed with door- to-door awareness visit on drug abuse in the surroundings of the college campus focused on the health and mental issues caused by its consumption, rally where volunteers raised Anti-drug slogans. Activities like Painting/ Poster making competition, Debate Competition were organized in the campus under this programme. Vice Principal of the college Prof Javed Mughal appreciated initiative and offered maximum support for this noble cause.

On 28 th of April 2023, the department of Political science and Dept. of Sociology under the guidance of worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad organized a special camp in the college premises to aware the college students about the importance of vote in democracy that how much it is important to get registered on the electoral roll after attaining the age of 18 years. On the occasion Dr Shezad Ahmed from the department of Political Science presented welcome address to the worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad, faculty members as well as the participants. He also delivered a lecture to make students aware about the significance of participation of people especially the youth in the democratic process by exercising their Right to Vote. Prof Arvind Sharma H.O.D Sociology also expressed his views in the form of extension lecture on the importance of electoral process in a democratic social set up and motivated students to make sure to participate in the democratic process by voting in the elections. Dr. Mukhtar Hussain, faculty of Sociology also informed the students on how to register oneself on the electoral roll and also aware them about special summary revision of electoral roll being conducted by the Election commission in J&K and motivated them to exercise their democratic right to vote during election process. The awareness camp concluded with the enlightening interaction of the Worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad. Speaking on the Occasion he said “The democracy is not possible without voting and that democracy and voting process are inter- related to one another. He expressed that it’s not just our right to vote but also duty of the citizens of a country to vote in a democracy. He also apprised all the participants regarding the eligibility conditions for registering oneself in the electoral rolls as well as motivated participants not only to register but also to ensure voting for strengthening our democracy. At the end of the programme the Mohd Rukhsar lecturer political science presented vote of thanks to Principal, faculty members and the participants for sparing their time from their busy schedules to attend the electoral awareness camp organised in the college premises.
On April 13,2023: NSS Units, Govt. P. G. College Rajouri, on the occasion of 132 nd Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on 14th April 2023, organized an essay Competition on the topic “Dr B. R. Ambedhkar : The Nation Builder” under the guidance of Dr Shamim Ahmed Azad, principal of the college. The competition aimed at giving an opportunity to the youth to come across various aspects of the philosophy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, to enlightened the young minds about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s contribution to modern India. Fifteen students participated in the event out of which Mr Sheraz Ahmed, Ms Sadia Shabir of BA Sem II and Mr Mushtaq Ahmed of MSc Sem 1 st were adjudged as first, second and third resp. and were awarded with e-certificates. Prof Supriya Gupta, NSS programme officer, Prof Rabia Koser, Dr Parveen Sadotra from Department of Computer Science and IT organized the event.
In a mature and sensible move the faculty members of Govt. Degree College Rajouri unanimously elected Prof Abdul Karim Bajraan as new Staff Secretary. Due to sincere efforts of some senior faculty members especially Dr Anwer Shah, Dr Bashir Ahmed, Prof Ghulam Abbas, Prof Mohd Sadeeq, Prof Manzoor Ahmed Dar, Prof Mohd Iqbal Raina and Dr Mohd Saleem Wani, a consensus was developed among the aspiring candidates thereby reaching an agreement in the best interest of unity of staff and maintaining a peaceful, constructive and conducive teaching learning environment in the college. This decision was seconded by all the staff members in presence of Prof. Javed Mughal Election Commissioner of the College. Those who spoke on the occasion included Prof Anwar Shah, Prof. Assadullha Khan and Prof Bashir Chowdhary. The newly elected Staff Secretary, Prof Abdul Karim Bajraan thanked the faculty members for reposing their trust in his leadership and assured the staff to perform to the best of his capabilities for the welfare of the staff. In his Concluding remarks the Election commissioner of the College lauded the efforts of the faculty members for reaching a consensus and making a wonderful unanimous decision.
AAs a part of the Anti Drug campaign the literary and cultural committee and NSS Unit of the college collaboratively held an awareness lecture on the abuse of drugs. The event was attended by large number of students from various semesters in the Multipurpose Hall of the College. Dr. Mayur Santosh was the resource person who extensively deliberated on the topic and presented an eye opening data through power point presentation. The lecture was followed by a question answer session. The program was chaired by Principle Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad and attended by all the faculty members. In his presidential lecture Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad impressed upon the students to be responsive in their conduct and behavior in and outside the campus besides playing a proactive role in educating the fellow youngsters to stay away from this menace. An awareness seminar was held today at Government post graduate college Rajouri. The Seminar was collectively organized by the Department of Political Science, Economics and Commerce. The chief guest on the occasion was Principal of the college Prof. Dr. Shamim Ahmad Azad while as presidium was shared by Prof. Amit Bhalla, Prof. Anwar Chouhan, and Prof. Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, the departmental heads of Political Science, Commerce and Economics. The faculty members of the college who participated in this seminar include Dr. Mohmmad Idrees, Prof. Jagjeet Singh, Dr. Masood Ahmad and Dr. Shehzaad Ahmad. During the introductory Prof. Amit Bhalla said that this program is aimed to spread awareness about India’s G20 presidency and encourage students to actively participate in such events."Such programs aim to connect our students and explore their innovative ideas and perspectives on G- 20 related issues. The greatest challenges can be resolved by acting together," he said. Prof. Ashiq Raza Malik spoke about the G20 summit being hosted this year in India. He also spread awareness among the participants about the G20 summit. He provided an extensive technical point regarding the G20. Prof. Ashaq Raza said the theme for the G20 - “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (One Earth, One Family, One Future) is aimed to promote a universal sense of oneness and address the challenges that mankind faces today. During the seminar, students from different departments of the college were given opportunities to explain their innovative ideas within the stipulated time. While the event proceedings were conducted by Prof. Amit Bhalla, Head department of Political science. Prof. Anwar Chouhan in his speech highlighted the key points regarding some financial aspects of G20. He said, "We should not only host such programs on the campus but also train students to become brand ambassadors of G20 Presidency so that they can disseminate more and more information in the society," he said. Principal of the college Prof. Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad appreciated the organizers for hosting such awareness programs in the college. Such sessions are the need of the hour and we should continue to organize such programs in future also. In his message and presidential address, Professor Azad stated that "G20 has many aspects and there are a lot of themes that have been covered already by some educational Institutions. This program is aimed to engage the young generation to resolve global issues led by technological advances in research and development in India," Prof. Azad urged the students to take benefit of these seminars in addition to their class work as such seminars are beneficial for them. Women Development cell of the college in collaboration with College Literary & Cultural Committee and NSS wing of the College organized week long activities in connection with International Women’s Day in the campus. A series of activities including poster making, quiz competition and symposium were organized during the week. A sizeable number of girl students participated in the events. Govt. P.G. College Rajouri organizes one day awareness workshop of PMSSS: Govt. PG College Rajouri organized one day awareness workshop for aspiring students of PMSSS Scheme 2021-22. Prof. Ajit Angural Nodal officer PMSS J&K and Mr. R.A. Ganju Assistant Director AICTE New Delhi were the resources person. Principal of the college Prof.(Dr) Shakeel Raina presided over the programme. About 300 aspiring students of PMSSS and parents attended the workshop. Prof.(Dr) Shakeel Raina Presented the welcome address and also few light on importance and requirement of this workshop he thank Govt. of India for providing this facility to the students J&K to continues there studies on scholarship in different leading intuition of the country. In 1 st session which was technical session, the resource persons give their presentation and 2 nd session was question answer session in which the students raised several queries and the resource person replies them, in the 3 rd session the feedback regarding the workshop and PMSSS was taken from the participating students.
As a part of week long program of BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO CAMPAIGN , Women Development Cell, Govt P G College, Rajouri organized a poster making and Slogan-writing competition on 20th January 2023 and 21 st January respectively under the patronage of the principal of the college, Prof (Dr) Shamim A Azad. Coordinator , Women Development Cell , Prof Salma Farooq inaugurated the event on 20 th January while highlighting the importance of such campaigns in the present society. A large number of students participated in both the events with great enthusiasm to show their talent. In his address , the Principal of the college Prof( Dr) Shamim A Azad appreciated the students for their exemplary drawing and writing skills and their dedication in participating in the campaign. The poster making competition was organized in Conference Hall of the college which was also attended by the members of Women Development cell. Prof Rabia Kouser and Dr Parveen sadotra distributed the stationery items among the participating students to add to their fervour and zeal. The following students were declared as winners of the competition: Saba(MCA 3rd Sem) grabbed First position , Shahnaz ( PG 3rd Sem) was declared second and Ms Samaara ( UG 5th sem) grabbed third position. The slogan writing competition was held on 21 st January,2023 in the Department of computer Science in which a number of students participated. Among the prominent faculty members who were present include Prof Abdul Karim, Prof Supriya Gupta, Prof Aasia Rashid and others. The first position was achieved by Bindu Sharma (3 rd Sem), second by Sharan (3rd Sem) and Neha (5 th Sem) attained the third position. Career Counselling Cell of Govt. PG College Rajouri organized extension lecture delivered by resource person of National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) an educational imitative of SEBI to educate the College students and to create awareness regarding the stock market and capital market and in particular working of the stock trading in Indian Stock exchanges. The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Amit Bhalla, Convener Career Counselling Cell of the College. He also carried out the proceedings of the event. Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad, Principal of the College was the Chief Guest. NISM resource person Dr. Bilal Ahmed Hakeem enlighten the students and faculty members of the College through his power point presentation covering areas like investment avenues, mutual funds, SIPs, truth about BITCOIN etc. The event was attended by large number of students and faculty members of the College. While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shamim Ahmed Azad, Principal of the College urged the students to participate in such extension activities as this will help them to explore multiple job opportunities after completing their graduation. He also appreciated the active role of career counselling cell in organizing such activities in the College which are beneficial for the students. Women Development Cell, Govt P G College, Rajouri organized a Legal Awareness Program on 17 th January, 2023 under the countenance of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim A Azad. The program was organized in collaboration with Central university Kashmir and the theme of the event was “ women Rights, Drug Dedication and Domestic Violence against Women’’. Coordinator, Women Development Cell, Prof Salma Farooq formally welcomed the resource person for the event, Mr waqar Ahmad from Central University of Kashmir and highlighted the importance of conducting such programs keeping in view the alarming rise in the drug addiction among youth and domestic violence against women in the society. In his speech, Mr Waqar explained the rights of women in detail and discussed various ways that aid in drug deaddiction. The speaker further made the audience aware about the various legal issues about the domestic violence and the role of District Legal Services in helping such women under violence. The students present also clarified their doubts regarding the approach to deal with crime against women. The program was attended by colossal number of students and faculty members including all the members of Women Development Cell including Prof Supriya Gupta, Prof Rabia Kouser, Dr Shamim Akhter, Prof Fatima Parveen, Prof Robina , Dr Attiya Syed and Ms Rehana. Rajouri Jan 09, 2023: The Research and Development Cell (RDC) of Govt. PG College Rajouri in collaboration with Africana Post Graduate Academy of Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa, and University of Johannesburg, South Africa organized two week online International Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Research Methodology between December 28, 2022 to January 8, 2023. The two-week international FDP on “Research Methodology” organized under the patronage of the Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Shamim Ahmed Azad whereas Prof. Javed Mughal was convener of program. Prof. Rajni Kant, Dean Faculty of Science and Dean Research, University of Jammu was Chief Guest in the valedictory function. While appreciating the organizers and resource persons, Prof. Rajni said the topic (Research Methodology) of this FDP is close to my heart and it now possible to transcend into other areas of research which earlier was not possible. Many disciplines go hand in hand and we can publish papers in any discipline and we have to forget working in isolation, he added. This is the time to think that entire planet is one family and whole world as one University, doing different types of experiments in different laboratories. The innovative approaches in research methodology can help overcome the most pressing issues our world is currently facing, he further said. Nearly two dozen resource persons and over 250 participants from 15 nations across the globe especially Africa were part of this two week program. A seven-day special NSS camp was inaugurated at Govt. P. G. College Rajouri by the Principal of the college Prof. (Dr) Shamim Ahmed Azad in presence of Prof Javed Mughal, Prof Sadeeq Ahmed, Prof Asadullah Khan, and NSS Programme Officers Dr Naseem Malik, Prof Supriya Gupta. The event began with the inaugural address of Dr Shamim Ahmed who enlightened the volunteers with the aims and objectives of NSS to inculcate social welfare in students and to provide service to society without any bias and also reminded them of the motto of the National Service Scheme “Not me but You”. Dr Naseem Malik also highlighted the role of youth as powerful change agents of the society and further motivated the volunteers to strive for excellence and encouraged them for maximum participation for the noble cause. Volunteers pledged to work dedicatedly to serve and strengthen freedom and integrity of the nation peacefully and through constitutional means. With an aim to contribute significantly to the nation-wide campaign of ‘Swcahh Bharat Abhiyan’, students conducted a cleanliness drive in the college campus during the second half of the day. Volunteers also took plastic collection drive in the college campus and the vicinity. Prof Supriya Gupta presented vote of thanks and appreciated the active participation of the NSS Volunteers in cleaning the college campus.
Govt. P. G. College Rajouri celebrated the ‘Constitution Day’ to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On this occasion, the NSS wing of the college in collaboration with Department of Political Science organized an online quiz on the topic “India the Mother of Democracy” to aware the students about the preamble of the constitution and the significance of celebrating the day. The e-certificates were awarded to the successful participants. The students and staff of the college took a pledge on the preamble of the constitution of India to follow the guidelines in the Constitution with dignity. Prof Amit Bhalla, HoD department of Political Science, Prof. Supriya Gupta and Dr. Naseem Ahmed, NSS Programme Officer coordinated the event. Dr Tabassm from department of political emphasized upon the relevance of the constitution in today’s time. Prof Dr Anwer Shah officiating principal of the college also appreciated the students and teachers for organizing such events.
Principal of the College Prof Dr Javaid Ahmed Qazi inaugurated the Mega Cleanliness Drive organized by NSS Units (Boys & Girls) of the college under Swachh Bharat 2022 on 19th October 2022 with an objective of cleaning of public spaces and households and to instill awareness and feeling of pride among citizens to keep their surroundings clean and waste-free. Seventy NSS Volunteers along with Programme Officers Dr Naseem Ahmed and Prof Supriya Gupta visited the area adjoining the college area and collected 220 kgs of plastic waste, trash, plastic wrappers and other non decomposable wastes. The waste collected is handed over to the Municipal Committee District Rajouri for disposal. Senior Municipal Councilor Mr Puspinder Gupta himself visited the college and appreciated the efforts of the volunteers and Programme Officers for collecting such an huge amount of waste.
The Principal of Govt P.G. College Rajouri, Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi and Vice Principal Prof Javed Mughal released a Zoology book Under NEP, 2020 titled “Biomolecules and Physiology of Life Sustaining Systems” for undergraduates authored by Dr. Shavish Vaid, lecturer department of Zoology in the presence of senior faculty members from various departments of the college including Dr. Shameen Akhter (Head of Zoology Department), Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Prof Javeid, Dr. Anwar Shah (Head of Botany Department), Dr Zamir Ahmed Mirza, Prof Amit Bhalla, Sh Anuj Bali and others. During his suggestive address, Dr. Qazi impressed upon the elite faculty to contribute more in the field of education by way of writing standard books and play a vital role in publishing papers based on research, innovations and experience. While giving a reference from holy Quran, he said there is no end in learning and one learns till the last day of life. The faculty member and the author of the book Dr. Shavish thanked the principal for his valuable suggestions, motivation and inspiration. It was concluded that this book will go a long way in solving the problems of zoology students especially in the field of Physiology for which they have been demanding special help.

PG College Rajouri organized an Inter College declamation contest on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Contemporary Times” in connection with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations here today. Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi was chief guest on the occasion whereas Prof. Mohd Iqbal Raina Convener Cultural and Literary Committee of the College coordinated the programme. On this occasion declamation contest on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Contemporary Times” was organized in which five Colleges from District Rajouri participated including Govt. PG College Rajouri, GDC Darhal, GDC Thannamandi, GDC Budhal and GDC Nowshera. Iram Gafoor of GDC Rajouri bagged 1 st position whereas Irfan Khan of GDC Rajouri and Rabia Kouser of GDC Thanamandi stood 2 nd and 3 rd respectively in this declamation contest. Prof. Amjid Ali Baber Department of Urdu coordinated the event whereas Dr. Masood Ahmed from Department of Geology rendered the technical support. Rajouri Sep 24: NSS Units Boys and Girls, Govt. P. G. College Rajouri, celebrated NSS Day on Sept. 24 th 2022. The event was organized by NSS Programme Officers Supriya Gupta and Dr Naseem Ahmed under the guidance of Principal Prof. Dr Javaid Ahmed Qazi. A symposium on the topic “Role of NSS in Present Era” and other cultural programs were organized to celebrate the 54 th NSS Foundation Day. Prof. Dr. Javaid Ahmed Qazi, Principal of the college was the chief guest of the event. Prof. Qazi enlightened the students with the role that NSS volunteers had played in evacuating various evils from society in the past and the responsibilities that volunteers must take to eradicate the other problems of the society like HIV/AIDS, Drugs addiction etc. and work for strengthening the communal harmony of the country. He also appreciated the work done by volunteers and NSS Programme Officers. Dr Ghulam Abbas, Convener NSS Advisory Committee, motivated the volunteers to realize the objectives of NSS and continue to execute community service while studying in educational institutions and throughout their life. About 40 NSS Volunteers participated out of which Simral Sanghal, Sajad Mahmood, Sultan Chowdhary spoke on the topic and Shahid Mehmood, Kunal Sharma, Sofia Kouser and Udhay Mehta presented the cultural items. Dr. Naseem Ahmed presented the formal welcome address. Supriya Gupta read the NSS report for the year 2021-22 and NSS Volunteer Menreen un Nisa continued the proceeding of the event.

In continuation with weeklong Nasha Mukt Bharat awareness campaign an intra College Kho - Kho Match was organized by Department of Physical education and Sports as a part of Sports week series, on the College ground. The College has taken the initiative of engaging youth in sports and spreading awareness among them regarding the importance of sports A total of four team’s two men and two women participated in the event. The match was inaugurated by Principal of the college Prof.(Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi in presence of Sh. Rakesh Puri Director Physical Education, Sh.Tanwir Ahmed Asstt. Physical Director. Govt. Post Graduate College Rajouri today started ‘Sports Festival Week’ in the college campus as awareness campaign for ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat.’ The festival was declared open by principal of the college Dr. J. A. Qazi in presence of Physical director of the college Sh. Rakesh Puri and Asstt. Physical director Mr. Tanwir Ahmed. Prominent fraculty members were also present which included Prof. Mohd sadeeq, Prof. Assadullah Khan, Dr. Mohd Saleem Wani, Prof. Z. A. Mirza Staff Secretary of the college, Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Prof. Supriya Gupta, Prof. Asif Ajaz Lone, Prof. Amit Bhalla. Earlier the event was started by Dr. J. A. Qazi who delivered a comprehensive lecture on ill effects of consuming drugs and other illicit substances. He stressed upon all the students to keep themselves away from drug abuse. On 1 st day of the sports festival, Tug of War games were organised. In the tug of war between UG and PG Girl students, the PG Students were declared winners while in the tug of war between UG 4 th and 2 nd semester students, the students of 4 th semester were declared winners. The students who participated in the event were served with refreshment. Week long sporting activities shall continue in the college as part of Nasha Mukt Campaign.
Sept 8, 2022: Govt. P. G. The event was organized under the guidance of worth Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi. Speaking on the occasion Dr Qazi welcomed the newly admitted students and enlightened them about the importance of the role of youth in eradicating this evil as it not only ruins the life of an addict but also the family and the society. He also sensitised the students about the current statistics on the rise in suicides and mental health issues is one of the consequences of drug demand. All the students along with the faculty members of the college took a mass pledge to make society drug free. Various activities like Painting/ Poster making competition, Debate Competition will be organized in the campus under this programme. Other faculty members present were Dr Saleem Wani, Prof Asif Lone, Mr Rakesh Puri (physical Director), Dr Gulshan Rashid Bhat, Dr Mohd Jameel, Prof Supriya Gupta and Dr Ram Kishore.
Yuva Tourism club, Govt P. G. College, Rajouri observed Tourism Promotion week in the Peer Panjal Region ,J&K from 3 rd September 2022 to 7 th September under the countenance of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi. The week was observed to promote Tourism in the peer panjal range of J & K so that the people living in rural areas can develop their small Home stays for earning livelihood. The purpose of this programme was to spread awareness among the youth about the scope of Tourism in such areas .The week- long event was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Prof (Dr.) Javaid Ahmad Qazi and in his inaugural speech he made the students aware about the ways in which Tourism can provide livelihood and improve the standard of life in such areas. He further added that Tourism can also be considered as a vocational Training Course by those who want to have their own Start –Ups. People in such areas can develop short Stay Houses so that it can provide them livelihood and also add to the promotion of Tourism in far flung attractive areas. YUVA Tourism Club conducted an online Quiz competition on the theme “Promoting Tourism in Peer Panjal Region ” in which a colossal number of students participated actively. Muzamil Haq (BA), Nazma Choudhary(BA) and Nazma (B Sc) were declared as the First, Second and Third winner respectively. Convener, YUVA Tourism club, Dr Mohd Saleem along with the Staff secretary of the college, Prof Zamir Ahmad Mirza and the members of the club including Dr Taseem Ahmed, Prof Sankait Gupta, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed,, Prof Altaf Hussain and Prof Salma Farooq organized a meeting with the student members of the club and other aspiring members in order to apprise the students about the opportunities and advantages of Tourism in Peer Panjal Range. Various innovative and feasible ideas were proposed by the students to develop small Paying Guest Facilities that will help in promoting Tourism.
Rajouri 12-August: Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of Government Post Graduate College Rajouri today observed International Youth Day in collaboration with J&K State Aids Control Society of health and Medical Education Department and J&K Higher Education Department. The programme was presided over by the Principal Dr. J. A. Qazi while Vice-Principal Prof. Javaid Mughal was the Guest of honour. The welcome address was presented by Dr. Nassem Ahmed Nodal Officer Red Ribbon Club/ NSS Programme Officer whereas the proceeding of the dias were conducted by NSS volunteers. All faculty members and large numbers of students were presents on the occasions 45 students participated in poster making competition, one minute extempore speech and reel-making competition under the theme of International Youth Day 2022 is Intergenerational Solidarity creating a world of all ages. Qazi threw light on the importance of the Day and added that celebration encourages youth around the world to organize activities to raise awareness relating to the theme Intergenerational Solidarity across generation is key for sustainable development. Government Post Graduate College Rajouri organized one day workshop on Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme in the College, here today. A large number of students from twin Districts of Rajouri and Poonch of various schools and colleges, parents and members of civil society besides faculty members of the college attended this mega event. The programme was chaired by Dr Javed Ahmed Qazi Principal of the college, whereas Prof Ajeet Angral, consultant/ Nodal Officer PMSSS J&K State was the key speaker cum special guest , Prof. .K K. Sharma Principal GDC Nowshera acted as observor, and Prof Javed Mughal vice Principal of the college graced the occasion as special guest. The event was coordinated by PM Special Scholarship Scheme Committee of Govt. P G College Rajouri headed by Prof Yasir Chowdhary. Govt. PG College Rajouri concluded the Digital Week programme of week-long activities conducted under Digital J&K Week on 30 th July 2022. Government of J&K is celebrating "Digital J&K, Week 2022" from 25th to 31st, July which was earlier inaugurated by Honorable Lt. Governor, J&K Sh. Manoj Sinha on 25th July at SKICC, Srinagar. The week is being celebrated with an aim to facilitate the public, so that they are made aware of e-services provided by various departments. In this connection, a series of activities were organized between 25-30 th July as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi, Principal of College inaugurated the week activities including Poster/ Painting competition on the theme “Digital Initiatives by Govt. of J&K”, Online Quiz Competition on “Various e-services in J&K” and Essay Writing competition on “Digital Initiatives in J&K”. Speaking on the occasion he stressed upon the importance of such awareness programmes about online services like, Aap ka Mobile Hamara Daftar (UMANG), e-UNNAT, DigiLocker etc to bring transparency and accessibility in delivery of such services to the citizens. A special Committee comprising Prof Sankait Gupta (Convener), Prof Supriya Gupta, Prof Salma Farooq, Prof Rabia koser and Dr Parveen Sadotra was framed to organize the event. 23 students participated in poster making competition and through their posters they emphasized on various citizen centric IT initiatives that are helping in bringing about greater transparency in governance & ease of living for citizens. 163 students participated in quiz out of which 102 qualified and got e-certificates. 15 students participated in essay competition. In their essays the students submitted that Information Technology tools are being used as an interface between government and public to resolve their grievances.

Today on 21 st of June 2022, International Yoga Day was celebrated in the College Ground of GDC Rajouri in which Staff and Students of the College in general and NCC Cadets in particular actively participated at 7:00 AM. The Celebration started with major AASAN which include TADAASAN, VRIKSHAASAN, PADHASTAASAN, KATICHAKARAASAN, PRANAYAMA, etc. The Program was coordinated by Captain Tanwir Ahmed, Asstt. Physical Director and NIS Yoga Expert of the College. He guided the participants in performing the Yoga AASANs. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of the College, Dr. Javaid Ahmed Qazi highlighted the importance of Yoga for improving physical and mental health of the individuals by adopting the habit of Yoga in their daily lives. The participants also took the pledge to promote the Yoga at Local, National and International level. 20 June 2022 NCC wing Govt.PG College Rajouri organized a guest lecture on virtual mode on the topic of “importance of yoga in modern life” with the collaboration of dept. of physical education and sports of the college under the Patronage of the Principal Prof Dr.J Qazi .The programme started with the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Javaid Ahmed Qazi. Capt. Tanwir Ahmed Associate NCC Officer and assistance physical director co-ordinating the programme. Earlier Capt. Tanwir Ahmed introduced the guest and audience and said the importance of yoga. He said the theory and practice of yoga has come to assumed even a greater importance in modern life with the full of stresses and strains.The guest lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Ananddean administration gopalancolleges Bengaluru. He laid stress in a world suffering from morbility of several types. yoga offers a whole sum solution to the problems of body and mind both. There is a need to organize yoga conference awareness lecture, camps and interaction to educate people about the beauty of yoga and its strength to guide the man in the right direction. More than 85 NCC cadets participated Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza vice Prinicipal, Prof. Zameer Ahmed Mirza, Shri. Government P. G. College Rajouri organised an online essay competition on the theme “Types of Cyber Attacks and their preventions” on Wednesday, June 15 th 2022. The competition was one of the series of monthly events organized by the Institution under the programme “Cyber Jagrukta Awareness Diwas” a program by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Higher Education Department J&K for implementing the scheme called "Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)".Over 20 Students participated in the competition that was organized to awaken the students about Cyber related crimes and security.The programme was organized under the overall supervision of Principal of the College Prof. Dr J A Qazi.He laid emphasis on organizing such awareness programmes on regular intervals to educate the students to use safe and secure online platforms. Gourav Kumar, Kajal Sharma and Swati Gupta were declared winners. The whole programme was coordinated by a Committee constituted for Cyber Jaagrukta (Awareness) Divas comprising Prof Supriya Gupta, Prof Rabia Koser, and Dr. Parveen Sadotra .
Department of Sports in Collaboration with NSS Units (Boys& Girls) &NCC Units of Govt. P. G. College Rajouri conducted a national level online quiz competition on “Road Safety Rules” under the supervision of worthy Principal of the college , Prof (Dr) J. A. Qazi. The objective of the quiz was to educate specially the college going youth with concise and adequate information and heighten their level of awareness about road safety issues. Mr Rakesh Puri, Director Physical Education, was the convener. Prof Supriya Gupta , Dr Naseem Ahmed, NSS Programme officers, Capt Tanveer Ahmed and Prof Salma Farooq, NCC officers were the organizers of the event. 400 participants from different colleges and universities participated in the competition. E- certificates were given to all participants who scored more than 60 percent marks in the event.
Rajouri June 5, 2022: The Research & Development Cell (RDC) under the aegis of IQAC of Govt PG College Rajouri organized one day international e-conference on Environmental Sustainability here on Saturday. The other speakers in this session were Dr. Stephen Little, Professor Extraordinaire , SARChI innovation group, Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa who spoke on the circular economy and environmental sustainability; Dr. Om Katel, Lecturer, Department of Environment and Climate Studies & Former Dean, Research and Industrial Linkages, College of Natural Resources, Royal University of Bhutan, Bhutan who gave presentation on Biodiversity conservation in Bhutan Himalayas and Taslima Sheikh, Ph.D Scholar, Sunrise University, Rajasthan who talked on butterflies diversity and their conservation. Rajouri May 31: The NCC Wing (SDSW) in collaboration with Cultural and Literary Committee of Govt PG College celebrated World No Tobacco Day here today. On this occasion a Seminar cum Rally on the theme “Tobacco: Threat to our Environment” organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Javaid Ahmed Qazi, Principal of College. While addressing the NCC cadets, students and staff of college, Prof. Qazi underlined the need for active participation of youth and students especially NCC Cadets to raise awareness among masses about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. “Students are the real ambassadors to fight out this menace”, he added. He also congratulated the NCC officers Capt. Tanwir Ahmed and Prof. Salma Farooq for co-ordinating the programme on this pressing issue. In the seminar, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, Convener IQAC, Dr. Ashaq Malik, Director R& D Cell, Prof. Asif Aijaz Lone from Department of Physics besides NCC Cadets Diksha Sharma, Mohd Rafiq and Gurmita of the College shed light on different aspects of tobacco consumption, its hazardous impact on the heath of individuals, society and the environment. The seminar was followed by the rally in which NCC cadets went around the college campus and raised slogans against tobacco use in all forms. The students also took pledge to say No to tobacco in their lives. Earlier, Capt. Department of Environmental Science (Eco Club) in collaboration with Literary and Cultural Committee of the college organised awareness program in connection with International Plastic-free Day. The program was attended by a huge gathering of students and faculty. Mr Anupam Kaul, Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Board, Rajouri, was the resource person on the occasion. Mr Kaul delivered a detailed talk on the environmental complications associated with the use of various kinds of plastics and deliberated on the governmental initiatives to reduce plastic pollution. District administration Rajouri in collaboration with college cultural and literary committee and NSS and NCC units of government PG College Rajouri organized a program to celebrate the world legal metrology day and the world Bee day. District development commissioner Rajouri Sh. Vikas Kundal the chief guest on the occasion and principle of the college Prof. Dr. J. A. Qazi Presided over the function. Department of Computer Science & IT, Government P. G. College Rajouri, organized a seminar on Cyber Security under the series of activities conducted on "Cyber Jaagrukta Diwas", to strengthen the cyber security for the prevention of cyber crime. The program was held under the patronage of Principal of the college Prof Dr J A Qazi and Officiating Principal Prof Farooq Mirza. Speaking on the occasion, the Principal applauded the Ministry of Home Affairs and Higher Education Department J&K for implementing the scheme called "Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)" to deal with cyber crime in a coordinated and comprehensive manner. He laid emphasis on organizing such awareness programmes on regular intervals to educate the students to use safe and secure online platforms. Ambedkar under the AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAVA to commemorate the 75th anniversary of independence here today. On this occasion an online quiz Competition on the theme “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar: The Father of Indian Constitution” organized under the guidance of Prof Dr J A Qazi, Principal of the College and Prof Farooq Mirza officiating Principal of the College. The competition aimed at giving an opportunity to the youth to come across various aspects of the philosophy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, to enlighten the young minds about Dr. B.R. Career Counselling Cell and Cultural and Literary Committee of the college organized guest lecture and interactive session on the topic ‘ career counselling of students’ in the conference hall of the college today.The programme was chaired by Dr. Javed Ahmed Qazi, Principal of the college Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza Vice Principal, gave the welcome address at the start of the event. NCC Boys wing of GDC Rajouri organized Cleanliness Drive in connection with National Maritime Day celebration and as part of Puneet Sagar Abhiyan. During the cleanliness drive, 15 cadets of NCC SD wing participated in the event and cleaned a Bowli at Kheora Near GMC Rajouri. The Students of M.A Arabic Semester IV organ ized a fresher party for newly admitted students of M.A Semester 1 followed by a literary meet. Rajouri, March 30, 2022: The Pir Panjal Eco-Club (Department of Environmental Sciences) in collaboration with NSS (Boys and Girls) Units of the college organized a plantation drive in the campus here today. The programme organized under the guidance of Prof. Javaid Ahmed Qazi, Principal of College. Dr Anwer Shah, Head Department of Botany, who was Chief Guest on the occasion, started the drive by planting saplings. He impressed upon the students to develop a habit of planting trees and do their bit for a safe and sustainable environment. Dr Junaid Jazib (Coordinator Pir Panjal Eco-club and Head, Department of Environmental Science), Dr Naseem Ahmed (NSS- Boys Program Officer) and Prof Supriya (NSS-Girls Program Officer) co-ordinated the plantation drive. Large number of students and faculty members of the college participated in the campaign and planted a good deal of saplings in the college premises. NSS Units (Boys & Girls) Govt. P. G. College Rajouri under the patronage of Dr. J. A. Qazi, Principal of the College and Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza, Principal (officiating) of the College and under the supervision of Programme Officers Dr. Naseem Ahmed Malik and Prof Supriya Gupta carried out series of activities to celebrate two- day Poshan Pakhwara conducted under Poshan Abhiyan, with an aim to generate awareness and to promote the nutrition status among the masses. On day one, an awareness rally was held towards the adopted village Chowdharynar where the Volunteers interacted with the village masses and raised slogans to create awareness that will help every citizen to progressively march towards a vision of Suposhit Bharat. On day two, volunteers visited Govt. High School Chowdharynar to achieve the desired goals of Poshan Abhiyan. Volunteers Shabeena choudhary, Sofia Sultana, Ajmal Nisar, Shahid Mirza and Ishtiaq ahmed aware the young children specially within the age group of (5-12yrs) of the village about the ill effects of eating junk food and unhealthy food habits. Prof Supriya apprised the children about the importance of balanced diet and Dr. Naseem awared the children about the value of nutrition and also thanked the school administration.
NSS Units (Boys and Girls) of Govt. PG College Rajouri celebrated Martyrs Day, also known as Shaheed Diwas or Sarvodaya Day,as a tribute to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru who fought for the freedom of India from the colonial rulers and sacrificed their lives on March 23, 1931 under the guidance of Dr. Javaid Ahmed Qazi (Principal) and Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza (Officiating Principal). The event was organized by NSS Programme officers Dr Naseem Ahmed and Prof Supriya Gupta. The event began with the screening of a documentary on the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh followed by painting and poster making competition. Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza, officiating Principal of College, threw light on the struggle of freedom fighters and their sacrifices. While speaking on the occasion, Prof. Zameer Mirza enlightened the students about the major freedom fights. Prof Mohd Iqbal Raina apprised the students about the importance of the day and Dr. Saleem Wani lauded the role of youth in nation building and maintaining the freedom. Rajouri, March. 19, 2022: The Department of Botany of Govt. PG College Rajouri celebrated 2nd Rhododendron Day in hybrid mode here on March 18. On this occasion an extension activity on the exploration of Rhododendron in upper reaches of Darhal Forests organized under the guidance of the Principal of College. Dr. Javaid Ahmed Qazi and in coordination with noted environmentalist O.P. Sharma Vidhyarti, IFS, Former Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K. A team of local environment conservation activists led by Dr. Ashaq Malik from Department of Botany of College visited the Rhododendron rich site (Khorwali/Hatrian) in the high reaches of Darhal in District Rajouri. Dr. Ashaq Malik brainstormed the locals and other masses through facebook live sessions about the importance of Rhododendron (Rhododendron arboreum) - an amazing locally called Hardul, in Dogri Chiu or Burans in Hindi, prevalent in Himalayan nations including India and are in full bloom during months of February and March. Nearly 200 plants of Rhododendron along with oak trees were found in 1km2 under exploration besides several other locations in Darhal, he added. Dr. Javaid Qazi, in his message, underlined the need of conservation of Rhododendron especially areas like Darhal which are comparatively less disturbed by developmental activities. The eco-friendly approaches are required to keep this and several other important flora intact by our collective efforts, he said. Dr. Qazi appreciated the Department of Botany for organizing this field based activity, he lauded locals of Darhal to raise concern about conservation of this wonderful genus. OP Sharma Vidyarthi connected live from Jammu shared the vision of celebrating Rhododendron Day for 2nd consecutive time since it was first celebrated concurrently in GDC Darhal by organizing its plantation drive and Govt. There is an urgent need to conserve this beautiful plant by establishing nurseries especially in the Pirpanjal region, he further said. Rajouri, March. 14, 2022: The Discipline and Anti-Ragging Committee of Govt. PG College Rajouri organized an Awareness Programme on prevention of the ragging here today. Principal (officiating) of the College, Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza was Chief Guest on the occasion whereas Dr. Anwer Shah, Convener, College Discipline and Anti-Ragging Committee, co- ordinated the programme. Dr. Ashaq Malik from Department of Botany in the College, was resource person on the occasion. He gave a PPT presentation on the topic “Ragging: a menace” detailing about the origin, evolution, socio-legal and ill-effects of ragging. He underlined UGC Anti-ragging Act 2009, J&K Anti-ragging Act 2011 and various other laws under IPC and regulations about ragging and its prevention. While speaking on the occasion, Prof. Farooq Mirza stressed upon rooting out the menace of ragging by collective efforts of all the stakeholders to ensure free and conducive environment for new coming students. PG College Rajouri organized two-day workshop on “Environment Protection” on 14-15 th Feb 2022 under the guidance of Principal of College, Prof. Farooq Ahmed Mirza. While speaking on the occasion, Prof. Farooq Mirza lauded the role of NSS volunteers in nation building, community service, peace building and conservation of environment, and hoped that more students will come forward to join this fascinating platform to serve humanity at par with ideals of father of nation Mahatma Gandhi. The objective of the event was to create awareness about the need to preserve the environment and natural resources in order to keep the world healthy.Various activities were conducted during the workshop like creating awareness among the masses about the ill effects of use of polybags; sanitation and disposal of garbage & composting. The workshop concluded with a plantation drive in the college campus. The NSS volunteers led by Programme Officers, Dr. Naseem Ahmed Malik and Prof. Supriya Gupta planted saplings in and around the College campus. More than 50 saplings were planted as part of a drive.

PG College Rajouri organized a National Webinar on the theme “Wetland Action for People and Nature” to mark World Wetland Day as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav here today. Prof. Prem Lal Uniyal from Department of Botany, University of Delhi and O.P. Sharma Vidhyarti, IFS, Former Director Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K were resource persons on the occasion. The webinar was organized under the patronage of Prof. Mohd Farooq Mirza, officiating Principal of Govt. PG College Rajouri whereas Dr. Anwer Shah Head Department of Botany was Convener of the Webinar. In his welcome address Prof. Farooq Mirza briefed the audience about the College background and pertinence of world wetland day celebration in College. Prof. Uniyal spoke at length about the wetlands, their importance, targets and individual as well as societal efforts to conserve the wetlands by citing examples from across the country. O.P. Sharma Vidhyarti in his lecture emphasised upon the four aspects of wetland conservation including passion, education, religion and activism. He highlighted the various wetlands and water bodies of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladkah with special reference to high altitude water bodies of Pir Panjal. Both resource persons asserted that students should be actively involved towards protection and conservation of wetlands. The theme of this year’s celebrations is “Saksham Yuva, Sashakt Yuva” which suggests, skilled and capable youth is the stronger youth.The event was organized by Dr. Naseem Ahmed & Prof. Supriya Gupta, NSS Programme Officers, Boys & Girls Wing respectively under the guidance of Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina.On this Occasion various online activities likeonline essay competition on the theme “The Power of Youth in Improving Community Conditions for Health”, Poster competition on the theme “Unity in Diversity”,video messages in which the students delivered messages on inspirational Quotes/Teaching of Swami Vivekananda were organized.A large number of students participated out of which Miss Kainaat Mir, Miss Ishrat Shakeel and Muniba Choudhary bagged first, second and third positions respectively in essay writing categorywhereas in poster making Sofia Sultana, Shubnum Naaz bagged first and second positions. The third position was shared by Zaffer Hussain and Sajad Mahmood NSS volunteers of the college.
With the message of cleanliness and social service a seven-day NSS Special Winter Camp successfully concluded at Govt. P. G. College Rajouri. Presiding over the valedictory function, Principal of the college Prof. Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina in presence of Prof Abdul Haq Naimi , HoD Urdu, said that the major objective of NSS is to inculcate noble human and social values among the youth so that a healthy society could be created. He also lauded the efforts and devotion of the organizers of the camp, Dr Naseem Malik and Prof Supriya Gupta, NSS Programme Officers. During the camp various activities like cleaning the campus area, cleaning of natural water springs, river banks etc. were performed by the volunteers where they also visit the holy shrine of Sai Ganji’s Ziarat and cleaned the adjoining areas there. The volunteers also aware the people residing in that area and motivated them to maintain hygiene as many people take bath in the holy water of the shrine. The volunteers also get a chance to have interactive sessions with eminent personalities like Mr Israr Bukhari CDPO Manjakote, Prof Mumtaz Wani from Department of Political science, NSS wing commanders’ of 2007 batch. NSS Volunteer Shabeena Choudhary and Sajad Mahmood conducted the proceedings of the event, Sofia Sultana read the report and Dr Naseem Ahmed presented the vote of thanks. The camp concluded on a high note with the certificate distribution to the camp participants.
A seven-day special NSS camp was inaugurated at Govt. P. G. College Rajouri by the Principal of the college Prof. (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina in presence of Convener NSS Advisory Committee Dr Ashaq Malik, Dr Shamim Akhter HoD Zoology, Dr Naseem Malik, Prof Supriya Gupta, NSS Programme Officers. As many as 30 volunteers were enrolled for the camp. The event began with the inaugural address of Dr Raina who enlightened the volunteers with the aims and objectives of NSS to inculcate social welfare in students and to provide service to society without any bias and also reminded them of the motto of the National Service Scheme “Not me but You”. Dr Naseem Malik also highlighted the role of youth as powerful change agents of the society and further motivated the volunteers to strive for excellence and encouraged them for maximum participation for the noble cause. Volunteers pledged to work dedicatedly to serve and strengthen freedom and integrity of the nation peacefully and through constitutional means. With an aim to contribute significantly to the nation-wide campaign of ‘Swcahh Bharat Abhiyan’, students conducted a cleanliness drive in the college campus during the second half of the day. Volunteers also took plastic collection drive in the college campus and the vicinity. Students cleaned the campus area and the surroundings. The plastic collected were disposed of safely by the volunteers. Prof Supriya Gupta presented vote of thanks and appreciated the active participation of the NSS Volunteers in cleaning the college campus and the efforts made by students in generating awareness regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Rajouri, Dec 23, 2021: The Women Development Cell of Govt. PG College Rajouri held Regional Seminar on Human Rights and Women Empowerment here today. Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, Principal of College was Chief Guest whereas Dr. Rani Mughal, Head, Department of Botany, GDC Poonch, Dr. Naim-un-Nisa, Head, Department of Arabic, GDC Thanamandi and Nazma Sheikh, District co-ordinator, Mahilla Shakti Kender (MSK) Rajouri were resource persons on the occasion. Prof. Aasia Rashid Bhat, Convener, Women Development Cell in the college, co-ordinated the event. In their keynote addresses, Dr. Rani Mughal and Dr. Naim-un-Nisa explained various aspects of human rights and values that can efficiently be applied to empower the women. They highlighted women rights in various religious texts with regards to women empowerment. They also said that the media can play very important role in the empowerment of women. Nazma Sheikh briefed about various government schemes to empower women. While speaking on the occasion, Prof. Raina said that the women empowerment is inevitable in the context of promotion and protection of human rights. Men and women are complementary to one another and progress of one is not possible without the empowerment of other especially women. He appreciated the Women Development Cell for organizing such event while involving the examplary resource persons from the Pirpanjal region. PG College Rajouri organized a webinar cum seminar on Biodiversity Conservation for Sustainable Development under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 th year of Indian Independence here today. Noted environmentalist and Tree talk crusader, O.P. Sharma Vidyarthi, IFS, Former PCCF and Director, Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing, J&K Govt. was resource person and Chief Guest whereas Principal Govt. Degree College Bishnah, Prof. Anuradha Pandoh was Guest of Honour on the occasion. Principal of College, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina presided over the hybrid mode programme. OP Sharma Vidyarthi delivered a detailed talk and awared the participants about the current scenario of biodiversity, need for its conservation and how it (biodiversity) can contribute in attaining sustainable development and addressing Agenda 2030. He said, we are losing at least one species a day and only our collective and comprehensive efforts can reverse the process, fight out global warming and change the climate change. Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, in his presidential address, lauded the extra-ordinary efforts of OP Sharma to educate masses about environmental and biodiversity conservation especially through his tree talk crusade that he launched in 2010 and now embarked at the mark of 1163 by his today’s lecture. Placement and Career Counseling Cell of Govt Post Gradauate College Rajouri organized a guest lecture on ‘Career Prospects in Postal sector’ as part of an awareness campaign. A good number of students and several faculty members participated in the program. Mr Anshuman Tripathi, Post Officer, Rajouri was the resource person who talked at length about various types of career options in Indian Postal services and encouraged the participant students to join this prestigious sector to build their career and serve the nation. He also awarded the participants about various financial schemes available for general public in Post Offices. Rajouri Dec 9, 2021: The Red Ribbon Club of Govt. PG College Rajouri concluded the third phase of week-long activities under the new India @75 campaign here today. The Red Ribbon Club of Govt. PG College Rajouri in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS), Department of Health and Medical Education, J&K organized a series of activities between 1-9 December, 2021 in third phase as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations - NEW INDIA@75. Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, Principal of College inaugurated the week activities including HIV/AIDS Awareness, Tuberculosis, Blood donation and Covid-19 in college that were co-ordinated by Dr. Naseem Ahmed, Nodal Officer of Red Ribbon Club of the College. At national level, the programme was launched in virtual mode by the National Aids Control Organization (NACO), a division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India on the World AIDS Day, December 1 which was attended by members of Red Ribbon club of the College. Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina appreciated the efforts of Red Ribbon Club for organizing diverse activities under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which benefitted student community to understand and actively participate in tackle the most pressing issues like HIV/AIDS, Covid- 19 and other related complicacies of our times. The Club organized short video making competition on HIV/Awareness in which Mehreen Sambyal, Sajad Mahmood and Sofia Sultana got 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd prizes respectively. The competition was adjudged by Dr. Shamim Akhter, HoD Zoology, Dr. Ashaq Malik (Botany Department) and Prof. Supriya Gupta(Computer Department). In the poster/slogan making competition on Tuberculosis/HIV awareness Sajad Mahmood, Ibrish Bi and Maiyda Kouser received 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd prizes respectively. Dr. Mohd Sadeeq, HoD Chemistry, Dr. Shamim Akhter and Prof. Superya Gupta were judges for this competition. In the debate competition on Blood Donation organized in collaboration with Zoology Department of the College, Mehreen Sambyal, Ibrish Bi and Sajad Mahmood won 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd prizes respectively. Jurry members were Dr. Shamim Akhter, Dr. Azhar Javaid (HoD-Biotechnology) and Prof. Sheraz Ahmed from Department of Zoology. An intra-college mask making competition was held in which Nisar Jannat, Maiyda Kouser and Rifat Shaheen adjudged 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd respectively. Prof. Farooq Mirza(HoD Education), Dr. Saleem Wani (English) and Dr. Ashaq Malik were jury members for this event. A large number of students from college especially members of Red Ribbon Club, NSS and NCC participated in different activities during the awareness week.
To commemorate the International Human Rights Day, Department of Political Science in collaboration with NSS Unit and Cultural and Literary Committee of the College under the guidance of the Principal, Prof.(Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina organized an Invited Lecture by Dr.Mohd.Ashaq Malik, a renowned Botanist and Social Activist. The programme commenced with the welcome address by Prof. Amit Bhalla, Head Department of Political Science where he introduced keynote speaker to the participants. He informed that the United Nations theme of Human Rights Day-2021 is to ‘Equality–Reducing inequalities, advancing Human Rights’ and appealed the participants to act as promoters by spreading awareness in the society. While addressing the participants Dr.Ashaq stated that the celebration of Human Rights Day will help in spreading awareness about the importance of human rights and to create equal opportunities for all. He discussed in detail about the nature of Human Rights, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and our Constitutional Fundamental Rights. While highlighting the importance of the advancement of human rights to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, he asserted that in the post-COVID-19 world, where the poverty and inequality has increased, respecting ‘Human Rights of All’ will help to end discrimination of all kinds, address inequalities and promote sustainable development. During this interactive session, students got satisfactory replies for their queries from the invited speaker. Dr. Raina, Principal of the College emphasized that Human Rights are necessary to provide every human the basic dignity to live. NCC Units, Govt P. G. College, Rajouri observed HIV Awareness week from 1st December, 2021 to 7th December under the countenance of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina. The AIDS Awareness Week was observed with the theme “End Inequalities. End AIDS. End Pandemics.” World AIDS Day is marked across the globe to raise awareness about HIV AIDS to help prevent its spread and confront the social stigma associated with the disease. The purpose of this programme was to spread awareness among people about the causes, symptoms, tests and treatments for treating HIV infection. The event was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Prof (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina and in his inaugural talk he made the students aware about the ways by which HIV AIDS spreads and its prevention. He also urged the staff and cadets not to shun the AIDS patients and treat them as equals. Prof. Salma Farooq, NCC officer in her address said that we should take various measures and activities to eliminate AIDS and other chronic diseases to make our planet safe and spreading awareness about AIDS disease in communities is must, which our NCC cadets are doing to a great extent. She also called for a united fight against HIV AIDS. NCC wings of the college organized rallies to end the discrimination of such patients and stressed on the need for proper education to prevent such pandemics. The cadets participated in poster making and shared their short videos on different social networking sites highlighting the causes of the spread of the HIV infection and the measures to control it. NCC wing of the college also conducted an online Quiz competition on the theme “HIV: Causes and Control” in which a colossal number of cadets participated actively. NCC Unit (Girls Wing), Govt P. G. College, Rajouri celebrated 73 rd NCC Raising week that concluded on 2 nd December, 2021 under the countenance of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina. The week-long event began with the hoisting of the flag, followed by a march-past by NCC cadets. The Cadets participated in various events including the singing of the NCC song, cleanliness drive, motivating and inspiring the students etc. During the celebration week, the cadets also paid tributes to the martyrs and cited various inspirational stories of patriotism. The Department of Political Science of Government PG College Rajouri celebrated "Constitution Day" to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India with full zeal. Prof. Amit Bhalla, the Head of Department of Political Science, highlighted the day's importance and urged the students and faculty members to uphold constitutional values. Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad Shah also spoke on occasion and enlightened the gathering with his views. While speaking on occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmad Raina, Principal of the college, said that these activities aim to reiterate and reorient the citizens towards the values and principles expressed in the Constitution. College Rajouri celebrated the National Unity Day on Oct 31 st to commemorate the 146 th birth anniversary of the iron man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. On this occasion Principal of the college, Prof. Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina along with NSS Programme Officers Dr Naseem Ahmed, Prof Supriya Gupta, NSS Volunteers and other staff members of the college took pledge to preserve and strengthen the unity, integrity, and security of our nation. Cultural and Literary Committee of the college in association withNSS and NCC Units organized a symposium on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Present Era” in order to celebrate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The event was organized with a motive of inculcating values of Gandhiji like peace, tolerance, mutual respect and communal harmony among the students and youth of the area. Rajouri, July 27, 2020: Govt. PG College Rajouri organized e-Workshop on NAAC Awareness under the aegis the recently constituted NAAC Awareness Committee of Jammu Division by Higher Education department here today. Principals along with the NAAC coordinators of six Colleges from across Rajouri and Poonch region including GDC Darhal, GDC Nowshera, GDC Budhal, GDC Kalakote, GDC Surankote and GDC Mandi participated in this workshop. Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, Principal Govt. PG College Rajouri who was the resource personof the workshop, gave a detailed presentation on the NAAC Awareness. He explained all 7 Criteria spread over 32 key indicators and 121 metrics and ways to implement those in the respective institutions to assure quality education at par with ideal of National Education Policy 2020. Prof. Ravender Tickoo, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division also delivered special address and answered the queries raised by the participants during the interaction session. Rajouri Sep 24: NSS Units, Govt. P. G. College Rajouri, organized an online seminar on the topic “Role of NSS in Creating Social Responsibility at Higher Education” in order to celebrate NSS Day on Sept. 24 th 2021. The event was organized by NSS Programme Officers Supriya Gupta and Dr Naseem Ahmed under the guidance of Principal Prof. Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina. Prof. Shabir Hussain Shah, Retd. Principal, former NSS programme officer and an eminent personality of Rajouri-Poonch region was the chief guest of the event. Prof. Shah enlightened the students with the role that NSS volunteers had played in evacuating various evils from society in the past and the responsibilities that volunteers must take to eradicate the other problems of the society like HIV/AIDS, Drugs addiction, COVID 19 etc. and work for strengthening the communal harmony of the country. Principal Prof. Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina appreciated the work done by volunteers and NSS Programme Officers in this pandemic situation. He motivated the volunteers to realize the objectives of NSS and continue to execute community service while studying in educational institutions and throughout their life. About 40 NSS Volunteers participated out of which Vishavpreet Singh, Jani Mushtaq and Sofia Sultana also spoke on the topic and shared their experiences as volunteers. Govt. Post Graduate College Rajouri today celebrated Teachers' Day in the multipurpose hall of the College with great enthusiasm. The event was celebrated in the fashion of a conference, where students' impressions and experiences were recorded so that the better can be done for them and the institution. The event was a collaborative initiative of literary and cultural committee and NSS wing of the college. The event was witnessed by students and members of teaching faculty. The Programme included a symposium on the topic 'Teacher a role model for the society', wherein about 10 students participated and deliberated on the creative role of teachers in shaping careers and characters. The programme was chaired by Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina principal of the college, who while addressing the gathering, stressed upon the need to help students to explore their real potential and nurture creativity, scientific reasoning, values and a humanistic vision among the students. The participating students expressed their views candidly and appreciated the immeasurable contribution of their teachers in their holistic development. A three member team of judges including Prof Sadeeq HoD Chemistry, Prof Asif Lone from Dept of Physics and Dr Gulshan Bhat from Dept of Geography adjudged Humera Mirza , Shabeena Chowdhary from 4th semesters undergraduate classes as 1st and 2nd position respectively whereas Shahid Malik from P G Urdu got 3rd position. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Govt. P.G. College Rajouri (J&K) successfully
conducted National Level Online Quiz on NAAC which was concluded today on July
07, 2020. It was organized under the patron-ship of Principal of the College Prof. (Dr.)
Shakeel Ahmed Raina. The Coordinator IQAC Prof. Zameer Ahmed Mirza Was
convener and Prof.Riaz Ahmed, member IQAC was the Organizing Secretary of the
event. 351 participants from different institutions of Higher Education across the
country participated in the competition. The Printable-e-certificates were given to all
such participants who scored more than 50 percent marks in the event. Prof. Zameer
Ahmed Mirza (convener) thanked all the participants.
In his message Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina said, the purpose of this quiz was to
aware all the stake holders with the most important concept of NAAC. He also said,
Principals, Heads and staff of the colleges and universities should be well versed with
NAAC parameters/indicators/quantitative as well as qualitative matrices under the
headings of NAAC seven criterions and should keep these in mind while running the

Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina emphasized that the purpose of the online quiz was to engage the student community constructively during the pandemic and to make them aware for the future competitive examinations by attempting the Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), as Geography subject is included in almost all the competitive examinations. Dr. Raina also congratulated and appreciated the Geography department fir organizing the event.
Rajouri March 13: The Department of Botany of Govt PG College Rajouri organized plantation drive here today. Principal of College, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina along with heads of various Departments and staff members planted several plants in the college campus. While speaking on the occasion Prof. Raina said that it is most appropriate work to enrich campus with new plant species particularly when classes are off due to novel Coronavirus pandemic. He appreciated the Department of Botany for this green initiative and doing constructive work. “We miss the students to be involved in this drive due to prevailing health situation”, he added. Dr. Anwer Shah, head of Botany Department said that over 200 plant species are part of college biodiversity, and we are gradually adding more and more plants for better Botanical studies, beautification of college campus and for conservation of environment at large. Prominent among others who participated in the plantation drive were Prof. JavedMughal, Prof. Ghulam Abas, Dr. MohdSajar, Prof. Aasia Rashid Bhat and Dr. Ashaq Malik.
Rajouri March 5: While joining the hands to nation and world in their fight against Coronavirus outbreak, Govt PG College Rajouri organized an awareness program here today. In this regard, an extension lecture on Coronavirus was organized in the college premises. Dr. Ashaq Malikfrom Department of Botany, a Plant Virologist, was resource person who detailed the students and staff of college about the history, biology, transmission, symptomatology and prevention of this dreaded novel virus. He explained how the students and staff can play active role in saving themselves and their families from the spread of this new virus strain (COVID-19) by following the simple life saving tips as prescribed by Health Ministry and World Health organization. Pathogen-host-environment triangle wherein host can be made stronger by following various do’s and don’t on health and hygiene were briefed to students. Principal of College, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina who was chief guest on this occasion advised the students and staff to be vigilant about this deadly virus without creating any panic in society. He said that it is our collective responsibility to fight against this epidemic which has emerged as a global emergency. Governments can’t do anything alone unless every member of society participate in prevention campaign, he added. The four days sports festival was concluded today on 27 th of February 2020 with a very impressive valedictory function. Prof. (Dr.) Javed Musarrat, the Vice Chancellor Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri was the Chief Guest on the occasion whereas Principal Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina presided over the function. Additional Superintendent of Police Sh. Liaqat Chowdhary was the guest of honour. Winner and runner up teams of all the games were awarded trophies and medals through chief guest and dignitaries. Department of Geography Govt. P.G. College Rajouri organized an extension lecture on Human Induced Disasters with Special Reference to Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir to create awareness about different parameters of manmade disasters, their impacts and consequences. The speaker of the extension lecture was a renowned Geographer, Prof. Anupreet Singh Tiwana, Head Department of Geography, Mata Gujri College Autonomous (Deemed to be University) Fateh Garh Sahaib, Punjab. Prof. Tiwana has focussed on drug abuses in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir and involvement of youth in it. He also made aware of the students about the negative impacts of Drugs on youth. Besides this he has also spoken about the negative impacts of green revolution on Human Health and stress upon the use of organic and indigenous practices of agriculture. Govt. PG College Rajouri Organizes Lectures on Moral values and Corona virus Principal of Govt. PG College Rajouri, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina wanted to boost and strengthen the moral values among the students and also acquaint them on the most important and sensitive issue of Corona virus. Prof. Javed Mughal, HoD English delivered an impressive lecture on moral values. He impressed upon the students to make the moral values as part of life because life becomes charmless and dull without them. He further added that it is need of the hour also to become a respectable and responsible citizen. Prof. Mangat Ram Sharma, HoD Zoology deliberated upon the issue related to Corona virus. He acquainted the students with corona virus, its mode of transmission, clinical symptoms and pathogenesity. He advised the students for following preventive measures and also disseminates the required information in the neighborhood. Dr. Raina also motivated the students and advised them to keep the contents of the lectures close to mind and heart. Dr. Shakeel Raina was very happy over the deliberations and thanked and appreciated both the professors for their valuable deliberations at the right point of time.
The Principal of GDC Rajouri, Dr. Shakeel Raina released a Zoology book titled “Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates” for undergraduates authored by Dr. Shavish Vaid, lecturer department of Zoology in the presence of senior faculty members from various departments of the college including Prof. Mangat Ram Sharma, Dr. Shiraz Ahmed, Dr. Anwar Shah, Dr. Ashiq Malik, Prof Amit Bhalla and others. During his suggestive address, Dr. Raina impressed upon the elite faculty to contribute more in the field of education by way of writing standard books and playing a vital role in publishing papers based on research, innovations and experience. While giving a reference from holy Quran, he said there is no end in learning and one learns till the last day of life. The faculty present there and the author of the book Dr. Shavish thanked the principal for his valuable suggestions, motivation and inspiration. It was concluded that this book will go a long way in solving the problems of zoology students especially in the field of comparative anatomy for which they have been demanding special help.
NSS Wing Govt. P.G. College Rajouri celebrated National Girls Child Day in collaboration with District administration Rajouri on the directions of principal Dr. Shakeel Ahmad Raina, under the supervision of NSS Programme Officer Dr.Naseeem Ahmad Malik. A walkathon and awareness program for which a rally of students was organised in the College campus which was flagged off from principal office and was concluded at M.P Hall inside the College campus. Rajouri, Jan 20, 2020: The Department of Botany of Govt. PG College Rajouri organized the People Biodiversity Register (PBR) preparation Meet in collaboration with J&K Forest – Rajouri here today. OP Sharma Vidyarthi, Director State Forest Research Institute, Jammu and Secretary of PBR was the Chief Guest. He detailed the audience about the importance and preparation of this pertinent document. While speaking on the occasion, Prof.(Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, Principal of the College, who presided over the function, emphasized the need of Biodiversity conservation and revealed its significance from religious point of view as well. Red Ribbon Club Govt. P.G. College Rajouri in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society commemorated the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda as National Youth Day. The theme of the programme was “Channelizing the Youth Power for Nation Building”. The programme was presided upon by the Vice Principal Dr Javed Mughal. On this occasion volunteers shared their views on the given theme. The Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of Govt. PG College Rajouri organized World AIDS Day under the lead of Dr. Naseem Ahmed Malik Nodal Officer Red Ribbon Club and NSS Officer Boys Wing & Prof. Supriya Gupta NSS Officer Girls Wing and under the patronage of Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Raina-The Principal of the college. On this occasion two events i.e. a Seminar and Poster-Making Competition on the topic ‘Communities make the difference ’ in collaboration with J&K State Aids Prevention and Control Society were conducted where-in as many as ten students participated. The Programme was presided over by worthy Principal Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Raina . The principal while expressing his views on this occasion enlightened the students about the life seeking threats of HIV in the present day society. The principal also revealed that only in this country thousands of lives are claimed by HIV/AIDS every year and suggested that a separate subject on the awareness of HIV must be introduced in all the educational institutions so that countless lives can be saved in future. Dated 20-11-2019 An interdisciplinary interactive session was organised in Government Post Graduate College Rajouri by the Department of Geology in collaboration with the Department of Geography. Around 100 students of both the departments attended the session which mainly aimed at the identification of local rocks, minerals, structural features and the fossil record preserved in the Himalayas and that too in a chronological order. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Masood Ahmed followed by a keynote address by Dr. Arjun Singh Rathore, Head Department of Geology. The Vice-Principal of the college Dr. Abdul Qayoom Khan impressed upon the importance of interdisciplinary approach coupled with skill enhancement among the students of earth-sciences. The other faculty members Dr. Masood Ahmed, Mr. Talib Hussain and Mr. Mohd Altaf demonstrated about displayed earth material. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Gulshan Rashid from the Department of Geography thanked the host department and assured his full cooperation for all such future endeavours. It was indeed a matter of great pride for the students and staff of Govt. PG College Rajouri that after a long spell of about 15 years, the Secretary to Govt. for Higher Education Department Jb Talat Parvez Rohella, has visited this institution to take stock of the College-its problems, issues, challenges and their solutions. An august Guard of Honour was presented to the Secretary Higher Education by the NCC and NSS Wings of the College under the Command of Lt. Tanvir Ahmed, Dr Shafia Saleem and Dr Naseem Malik NSS Program officer. The District Development Commissioner Rajouri Shri Aijaz Asad and Prof Shakeel Ahmed Raina also accompanied the Chief Guest while receiving the Guard of Honour. The whole proceedings of the visit were conducted and a detailed inter-active session of the staff with the worthy Secretary, Higher Education were conducted and concluded by Prof Mohd Iqbal Raina which started with a detailed Progress Report read out by Prof Shakeel Ahmed Raina- the Principal regarding the achievements of the College leaving a very positive impact on the Chief Guest. During the interactive session so many demands were projected by the staff and the best part of the Secretary’s visit and his magnanimity was that all the genuine demands were fulfilled on the spot. Worthy Secretary to Govt. in reaction to the demand of the Principal for PG Physics, on spot granted sanctioned PG Course in Physics in the College. The meeting ended and the visit concluded with happy note of the worthy secretary about the performance of the College under the leadership of the Prof Shakeel Ahmed Raina.
NSS Wing of Govt. P. G. College Rajouri celebrated the 144 th Birth Anniversary of Late Sh. Vallabhai Thaverbhai Patel as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas/ National Unity Day. The program was presided over by Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina Principal, Dr. Abdul Qayoom Khan, Vice Principal. The faculty members Prof Asif Lone, Prof Sankait Gupta, Prof Amjed Bhatti, Prof Talib Hussain, Prof Parveen Sadotra,Sultan Chuhan,head boy and NSS volunteers were also present on the occasion. Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina appraised the students about the contributions of Sh. Vallabhai Patel as the responsible citizen of the country and motivated the students to inculcate the values of Late Sh. Vallabhai Patel. Today on 25 th of October 2019, the Students Body Elections were held in the College as an integral part of the College Academics under the aegis of Prof (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina-the Principal of the College in the presence of the entire teaching staff. The Electoral process was conducted and completed by the College Electoral Team under the convener-ship of Prof Javed Mughal HoD English. In the first phase the election of CRs were held to elect one Girl CR AND One Boy CR from each. The total number of CRs elected through secret ballot, was 54. In the second phase, as many as 5 candidates- two from boys namely Asif Hussain Manhas and Sultan Chauhan and three contestants from girls namely Iqra Kohli, Geetanjali and Farhat Afza were in the fray. One Head Boy and One Head Girl were to be elected by 54 Class Representatives. Mr Sultan Chauhan and Ms Geetanjali were elected as Head Boy and Head Girl of the College for the session 2019-20. The Principal at the end of the electoral process successfully completed delivered a detailed instructive lecture to the representatives apprising them of their duties in the College. The department of Zoology, Govt. P.G. College, Rajouri organized chart/poster/model competition the other day with an aim to inculcate creative and drawing skills among the students. More than 25 students participated in the event and Ms. Saima Manzoor and Ms. Heena Thunazam both of semester 3 rd bagged first and second positions respectively. Third position was received by Sumaira Anjum. The principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Raina appreciated the students and emphasized the students to participate in such functions proactively. Dr. Raina also congratulated the staff of Zoology department. Prof. M.R.Sharma welcome the principal and members of the jury composing of Prof. Iqbal Raina, Prof. Ashiq and Prof. Naveen Sharma. Rajouri Oct. 05, 2019: The Department of Botany of Govt. PG. College Rajouri organized an agriculture/industry tour of students to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) - SKAUST Rajouri here today. The students of 5 th Semester studying Skill Enhancement Course in ‘Mushroom Cultivation and Technology’ led by Dr. Ashaq Malik, visited the KVK Rajouri where they learnt about the Mushroom cultivation. Dr. Arvind Kumar Ishar, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Rajouri gave a detailed presentation on Mushroom cultivation followed by demonstration of first step(turning of compost) of button mushroom (Agaricusbisporus) cultivation. He explained various methods, techniques and scope of cultivation of different types of mushroom to become part-time or full time entrepreneurs in Mushroom cultivation. Later, the students were taken around the KVK campus and observed various field experiments on crop production, screening, hi-tech Poly house and vermicomposting. Earlier, speaking at pre departure briefing, Prof. (Dr.) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, Principal of the College, underlined the essence of launching Skill Enhancement Courses in the colleges by Government and entrepreneurship potential in these courses from job seekers to job providers. Dr. Anwer Shah, Head, Department of Botany thanked both Dr. Arvind KVK Rajouri for providing hands on training to students as well as Principal PG College Rajouri Dr. Shakeel Raina for providing transport facility. On the eve of 150 th birthday of Mahatima Gandhi P.G. College Rajouri held a multilingual poetic meet (mushera) on the theme of peace of harmony in the Multipurpose Hall of the College. The event was organized with a motive of inculcating values of peace, tolerance, mutual respect and communal harmony among the students and youth of the area. A large number of participants from variegated backgrounds faculty members, students from various UG and PG semesters presented theme creative in poetic composition and enthralled the jam packed audience. Besides this some speakers also deliberated on the teachings of Mahatima Gandhi and their relevance in the present age.
